What is not a surprise is that the New England Patriots are the week's largest favorite. The Pats are giving away ten and a half points even though they are on the road, albeit at Cleveland.

This is a better team than the Pats 2010 version, and Cleveland may be worse. Then there's the Brady return factor. Did I help?
 
This game reminds me of last year's Colts game. Many were expecting and saying Brady will put up 60 points and it was much closer than expected. The fake punt was worth it though. I never like a double digit spread for a road team. I'm just hoping for the W

I actually have a strict rule of never, under any circumstances, giving more than -3 on the road. Do I miss out on some opportunities? Sure, but I also limit mistakes. As you suggest, home field advantage is important.

As far as your statement goes--I can guarantee that giving double digits on the road is a losing proposition in most cases.
