Re: NFL considering to ban all blocks below the waist

I think the cut blocks Washington & Houston use should be banned because they're flat out dangerous and not needed.

But a RB should be allowed because sometimes that's the only thing stopping a QB potentially being put on IR.

A bigger problem is when idiots like Landry launch at a players head with the sole intention of knocking a player out though.

There is no way to safely smash into someone at full speed wearing body armor, it's a brutal contact sport play at your own risk. Just make the shift to flag football if they want to make it safer and stop BSing everyone.

I warned everybody five years ago about this nitwit Goodell....it's happening right before our eyes....

flag football here we come! :bricks:

Yes, by all means Goodell, now that Shanahan has gotten a career and a couple of SuperBowl rings out of it, you try to ban blocking below the waist. This was far more of a widespread problem in the late 90's, early 00's than it is now. Complete overreaction.

Why not just ban blocks below the waist from the side or the rear? That's the real dangerous play, where you're diving at a players knee from the side or the rear.

But banning them altogether is just crazy.

It's about insurance rates and lawsuits. Owners are searching for a formula that keeps more money in their pockets while minimizing injury payouts. Blaming Goodell is ignoring the reality the league faces with impending litigation. They are scared.

Sucks to be a Ravens, Redskins or Texans offensive lineman! That's all they know how to do.

Goodell is the face of the owners..and I hate every disingenuous, snarky, smarmy, pinheaded molecule his existence depends on. I know they are scared. Have some goddamned guts and get out in front of the issue as a group.Using this 3 brain celled mongoloid as a scarecrow is a slap in the face of every sentient fan of the NFL over the age of five. Time to flush this turd, compartmentalize operations and meet this issue head on and above board.

Utter stupidity ... the rules change that is needed IMO is moving to a game day roster of 60 players.

Well said.

I understand the NFL wants to negate brain injuries. Putting in place the regulations they have to keep players from getting these type of injuries is a good thing/hard to argue with. Further, for instance, rules against the horse collar tackle or certain chop blocks seemed a reasonable and thought out response to serious injuries that were happening outside the intention of the hard hitting nature of an NFL football game.
Unfortunately it appears that RG/the NFL are stepping outside reasonable and well thought out, and going the direction of what is good public relations. Trying to make the feel good media feel good about what the NFL is doing. But as stated by Robbomango, there is no way to make two large powerful human beings smash into each other safely......except you can try to make them not smash into each other at all. You can incrementally move it toward having more and more elements of a non contact sport. So ban all blocks below the waste? Then how about limit the amount of pass rushers to 4? QBs still getting injured? Then why not also make 2 hands touching the QB a sack and outlaw all tackling of the QB in the pocket? For RB's, how about make it illegal for running backs to lead with their head then also finally outlaw all tackling that leads with the helmet? Also, move up the kick offs another 5 yards and make it a touchback every time. Still injuries happening in the kick off? How about teams just get the ball at the 20 after a score?

Outside of the brain injuries, isn't a very good response to injuries to make more money available for lifetime medical insurance as well as lifetime payments for careers that end due to injury? My suspicion is the average player wants to play the rough game of football exactly as it is....I suspect they'd just like to feel secure they will be taken care of in case of serious injury.

Why pay people that cannot play?? Do it in two phases.. first suit up all 53 players, and then phase 2 suit up everyone..

It is a stupid rule..
