Prediction: It will be fun. Old men yelling at cloud will be proven wrong.
I imagine it will be plenty of fun. Just like playing beach football at the Pro Bowl was plenty of fun. I hope the Patriots are not represented on the team.

I also hope the team is selected based on merit and not big names. I would bet that the best possible team would involve those already playing professional flag football and not necessarily those playing in the NFL.

It is also playing with fire as far as injuries are concerned. I hope the Patriots are not represented on the team.

That’s my concern, it will be all big name NFL players, forget about all the young men who have been playing for years and probably had their eyes on the Olympics if it were to ever become an Olympic sport.

The future of the NFL.

d%#*!@t WB took the words right out of my mouth. Who knows if it will even be at more than 1 Olympics. This, exactly like breakdancing and other events, should not be an “Olympic” sport. All it’s going to take is for some big name pro player to have a major injury during it and I think that’ll be it. Plus flag football is lame. The line MAKES the game. Trench violence. Why don’t they just have a qb, receivers, and some dbs. Ball gets “ snapped” to the qb via qbs imaginary snap, and the wrs just fight it out with the dbs? Christ that’s just as boring.

Do people watch flag football? I thought breakdancing was irrelevant in the United States? I know it was a big thing in the 80’s but didn’t know it was so popular in other countries like Korea and Australia, enough so to make it into an olympic event.

I get there is strategy and athleticism to be elite at flag football but if its anything like wiffle ball it doesn’t always equate to professional athletes.

Personally I would say breaking is irrelevant but there’s a scene in places. In larger cities usually there’s interest. It should have never been in the Olympics. They may as well add Salsa, Doo Wop, Rave, and other dancing styles…the running man included…

Why not? Playing flag football is a great way to meet girls.

More seriously, but not that seriously, given the obscene investment teams have in these players, this seems like a dumb idea. Many serious football injuries are non-contact, after all. But players increasingly have the upper hand over management in the NFL, and what the players want, they generally will get. Time will tell whether this shift will ruin the NFL, as it has already ruined the NBA.

Sounds like a stupid idea not only to have this in the Olympics but to have NFL players competing. How many countries play NFL style football??
The risk of injury could be significant.
Probably will put in future contracts that upon signing their contract that they will not participate in the Olympics..

I agree. Today's NFL is so QB/WR centric. If you take the blocking and tackling element out of football, you've ruined it. Flag football is fun to play, but not to watch.
