I haven't been a huge Amaro fan, but I personally wouldn't "pass" on anyone based on their Combine performance. People are much too easily influenced by how people look running drills in shorts.

I hear you but I was not a huge Amaro fan to begin with. Also the combine is the most important thing in these players careers at this point. If they're not prepared and bringing their best for that I am not sure about them.

Hands of stone. More like a fourth rounder.

In his defense he looked ok in the gauntlet. Ran a pretty good 40, but with all the talent in this draft I could easily see him still there in the 3rd or 4th.

He had a nice sophomore season but there was nothing impressive about his sr year. What's up with that?

Earl Thomas is 1" taller, Eric Weddle is 2" taller.

And anyway, I've consistently acknowledged that his size is an issue. That doesn't stop him being the best pure safety though.

Shane P. Hallam ?@ShanePHallam 26m
One thing PSU WR Allen Robinson does real well is track the ball and high point it. If you put him in position to do that, can be real good

Is Logan Thomas going to go too high now for a position change?

Jarvis Landry's official 40 was 4.77. Ouch.

Brock Vereen, Shane's brother who we've met with said he'll be disappointed by anything slower than a 4.4. Does anyone know anything about him?

I was gonna ask the same thing.

I think someone will take him before the end of day two. Now here's the question. Considering that BB has drafted Mallett and O'Connell in the third round, are we absolutely sure it won't be us? Even as a QB, Thomas fits BB's high upside philosophy.

What would happen if he tried to hit Demaryius Thomas?

That's about where I had him.

It's a shame a 6'6" 220 4.50 WR plays like he's 5'10"

Tuitt probably had more career sacks than any DT in this draft save Donald and Will Sutton (educated guess there) and Kelly had 2.5 sacks before his injury. I don't agree with you at all that this is necessarily less disruptive than having midget DTs.

And I agree that Donald's numbers will be interesting. The reason I like him over other 3-tech types is that his explosion might just justify him being used differently. Regardless of my defensive philosophy, I will celebrate a Donald pick, have no fear.

Tuitt had a bunch of gift sacks where he was unblocked. With the exception of JJ Watt who's an athletic freak there aren't many 6'5" 310+ DE's who can kick inside and be a factor in the passing game as a 4-3 DT. Most of the guys at that height such as Mario Williams and Jordan Cameron play at around 290. If Bill wants to go in that direction I'd be all ears but again it would be more of a one gap 3-4. If Tuitt was that much better at 306 vs 320 I'd consider him in that role and let him get completely ripped and play at under 300.

Will Sutton is interesting with the weight. Like Tuitt definitely a lot more athletic at the lower weight. An interior line of Sutton at the reduced weight and Donald on passing downs would be dynamic.

Agreed and even more interesting to me is would Bill let him play TE while still trying to develop him at QB?

A Mallett trade will have to happen first.

Is he passionate about FB? Tough? Competitive? That's what I'd worry about wether you take him as a Jimmy Graham project or a Cam Newton project.

What happens when Weddle does? And considering Ward is a very good tackler, my bet would be that Thomas eats grass.

And what part of me acknowledging that his size is an issue are people not understanding. I've said it about Ward from day one. I've never said he should be drafted in the first round or ahead of Pryor/Clinton-Dix or anything like that. All I've said is that I like him and I think he's the best safety (not the first safety taken which is a clear distinction).

I was gonna ask the same thing.

I've watched Brock a lot. He has played both safety positions and corner in college. He's a shoddy tackler, who can lay a hit but often overpursues, and leaves his feet way too often. He has good movement skills for a defensive back. He can really fly and he has hips that could play in the slot. He takes false steps a lot. The fact that he's played all over the place is a positive and bodes well for being a "star" DB. Day 3 material. I like the guy who plays next to him, Damarius Travis, who is more of a pure safety and flashes in the box. In coming drafts he'll be one to watch.

These are questions that we can't answer. I'm not saying we would do it, I'm just saying that we're as likely as anyone to do it given past history.

And would Mallett have to be traded first? It would just mean that they either carry three QBs for a year or Mallett gets traded after the fact.

You are seeing different sacks to me then. I saw three excellent rushes in the bowl game that lead to a sack, an Int and a forced incompletion.

Yeah because Irish Chocolate was taking up all the blocks.

You can acknowledge his size all you want but that's not going to stop me from saying he's too small and is a poor fit.

Amaro looked bad today, his hand eye coordination was horrendous, and his route running wasn't much better. I will pass on him.

i dont think you pass on him based on the combine. you have to look at the entire body of work like game film, pro day etc.

I don't question that Ward can play safety. But I don't see him as a fit for the Pats.

Earl Thomas is 5'10" but he was 202# when he came out, played extremely physical, and had 4.37 speed. And we already have McCourty as our Thomas, so we need a complementary player.

Eric Weddle was 5 11 1/4" 203# with 4.48 speed. That's a lot different from 5'9" 189#.

Again, I don't question that Ward can play. I'm not sure that a 5'9" 189# safety can hold up in the NFL on a full time basis. And I certainly think we need a different kind of player opposite McCourty.
