Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

so what's this to stop any teams from colluding in sleazy tactics which are blatant rule violations, to get an unfair advantage over other teams?

ohhh wait, they would have Permission, nevermind

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

unfortunately this will go nowhere.people will dismiss this because mangini says so

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

In case anyone needs a refresher from PatsFanInEaglesLand (seen here originally: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showpost.php?p=614395&postcount=5):

1. Page 105 of the Game Operations manual says: "No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." It later says: "All video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."

2. And, a memo from Ray Anderson, NFL head of football operations, to head coaches and GMs on Sept. 6, 2006 said: "Video taping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game."

Seems like Mangini just admitted to breaking #1.

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

It's even better than that. The mod locked the thread, but only after posting this:

So, the Jets didn't "cheat" because the PR guy FROM THE JETS, a team that lied about filming until just now coming clean, says so, and that's a good enough reason to end all discussion.

Letterman wishes his writers were this funny. What a tool of a moderator.

Bunch of fraud hypocrites. kleckoisgod is a cowardly piece of ****. I used to post there a lot but haven't even bothered this season, because what's the point? There's not much of a rivalry when the only team that bunch of losers can beat is the winless fish.

I'm a little grumpy today, I sense a JI ban coming on...

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

NFL rules state "no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." They also say all video for coaching .purposes must be shot from locations "enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."

Cousins,
The Jest deal ripped open the scab. This is all baloney this taping stuff. As kids we all played in a used refrigerator or furniture cardboard large box packaging if we found them, and made them forts or castles.

NFL rules state "no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." They also say all video for coaching .purposes must be shot from locations "enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."

If the kid who "taped" the Jets on the sidelines was in one of those boxes it would have been legal. All of you sanctimonious N.E. haters have to feel pretty stupid even suggesting that the Pats hurt the integrity of the sport (take note Martin Luther Dungy!).......please!!!!

Just because he didn't use a cardboard refrigerator packaging box? This is how stupid this has become. We could have taped the signals from underneath the "Amana" porch. That was legal!!!!!!!!! It's just where we taped them from. Maybe BB was trying to convince Goodell that we were really on the patio? And then we have nut-case people paying for airplanes to circle overhead with banners. What smart(?) person in the media picks this up and says.....Opps! My bad on this "spygate" crap! first? He will then have a following of "writers" or mediots distancing themselves from this taping or cheating B.S. like they would the girl in the "kissing booth" at the county fair with a lip fungus.

How do you like your crow Mr. Media and Mr. McNabb and Mr. Horn and Mr. Dungy, and Mr. Tomlin and Mr. NY Post and Mr. "airplane banner buyer" and Mr. or Ms. every fan out there in "lets hate'em" land? Pretty niftly stuff....huh!

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

I read the rule when this first became news. As I recall, you have your enclosed boxes where you can tape. Now, "asking permission," or "from the sidelines", never came into it. It is true that the taping had to be done in designated enclosed areas -- but the sidelines are no more or less enclosed than a random spot in the stands. If the spot is in the designated 4-walled roofed structure, nobody would ask permission. They'd just film.

Prior to "Spygate" you had official game cameras that were the same for every club. Then you apparently had these "tapes by permission" you could make outside of the enclosure. Nobody rats anybody out, no harm no foul. So apparently, that is still going on, based on the ability of teams to form coalitions against another team or teams (i.e., "I'll turn in the Pats, but not you, my good buddy _______.")

So evidently, the rules are hard and fast if you rat, and flexible if you don't think the other guy will rat. This approach really does seem to give inordinate power to the informants.

We "cheated." I don't care about saying it. The rule said one thing and we did another.

This story is just the proof, however, that everybody "cheats", and that the "asterisks" don't apply to anybody any game or any thing in the real world, when the subject is something as minor as this. More than anything I am pissed at mediots buying in and explaining how "huge" an advantage the Pats got... well, what kind of "huge" advantage is it now that crap teams are getting caught?

I can't stand Kleckoisgod. He is the biggest coward ever. He always starts these pathetic anti-BB threads then gets completely owned by his own lies and fantasies, then shuts down the threads and bans everyone. I got banned the other day for daring to say that Rats* fans were insecure when they had their "Pats fans are ***s" thread in response to the tongue-in-cheek Tom Brady Man Crush thread here. What a sad excuse for a fan base they are.

That guy is a massive tool. I loved his argument that 16-0 doesn't count because the Pats would have beaten an 0-13 team twice, and a 3-10 team who beat that team twice, uh, twice.

This new Jets taping thing made my day. Their spin over on JI is priceless.

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

As predicted, I posted this on Saints report and got nothing but yawns and "youre 13-0, it'll be alright" I hate people.

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

I wonder what Peter King, Cris Collinsworth, and Bob Costas think of all this? Greg Easterbrook, where are you?

Scurrying like Rats trying to come up with answers, aka excuses.

Re: Newsdayid the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

Even if they don't whack the Jets for a first rounder, the NFL definitely needs to put an asterisk next to their 3-10 record. :rocker:

Modern journalism school is NOT about investigative journalism and a search for facts; it's about agenda journalism. You write what you feel is right.
Actually, you write about what you feel will sell advertising space/time.

Actually, the placement of the camera/cameraman was more or less a facade for the punishment that followed.

Goodell, undoubtedly riding a crest of intoxicating power following his ascension to the throne...oops! I mean, commissioner's office, was outraged that someone had the turpitude to actually flout one one of his edicts...err, directives, and that's why he came down the way he did.

Of course, the fact that the Jets are STILL doing this, playing the irrelevant "permission" card, and lying about everything the whole time, should be grounds for even more enragement by the king...I mean, Commissioner. You know, something that will not only enforce the message's thrust upon the perps, but give everyone else around the league pause, as well.

Of course, we cannot overlook the fact that Goodell's first job out of school was as a Jets' PR flack...

Of course, he can!

(And doubtless will!)

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

Actually, the "permission card" may be of overwhelming relevance. It is what the media will latch onto to spin the story into another example of Patriot disregard for the rules.

They will say that the Patriots gave the Jets permission to illegally tape because they see themselves as above the law. They'll go on to state that evicting the poor cameraman is just further proof of Patriot hypocrisy.

Don't laugh. These agenda-driven ink monkeys can twist a story faster than Peyton can turn on a team mate.
