new guy Carl Davis = Run defender

But the Patriots are 2-0 with Davis in their lineup, and no, we’re not saying he’s the cause for New England’s sudden upswing. But the Patriots pretty desperately needed a nose tackle in the middle of their defense once it became obvious that Beau Allen wasn’t going to play this season. Davis is a nose tackle. He’s an immediate improvement over the players New England was putting in the middle of its defense because they weren’t nose tackles.

The Patriots have let up just 180 combined rushing yards over their last two games. T

If this were a better year for the team, we'd be talking about him like we did Alan Branch.

It seems like every time, without fail, that New England gets a 6'4"+, 300lb+ DL with long arms, who can play at NT and RE/LE as a 5-tech, they thrive. Every. Single. Time.

Seymour, Warren, Hicks, Branch, Guy, now Davis. I'm sure Beau Allen would've helped if he could've played this season (the guy has tree-trunks for legs, and hopefully he'll be healthy and ready to go next season), but there's something about the taller guys like Davis, who have really long arms, where they just really, really flourish here. The longer arms/height also allows them a bit more versatility across the line and gives them some pass-rushing impact, too.

I find it slightly shocking that the team isn't trying to find 1-2 of these guys every couple years because when they're able to acquire them and get them on the field, they perform extremely well and transform the front-7. It's either a failure of personnel acquisition, or much more likely, the fact that these guys don't grow on trees and are really hard to find; gotta snatch them up when they're available.

Hopefully Davis will be around next season, too, to pair with a healthy Allen ... and if we could bring back Guy on a team-friendly deal, that'd be a stout interior DL going into 2021.

he's a nose tackle replacing not nose tackles in the nose tackle position. luv it..
Yep, going into the season Beau was an important piece, not because he was a stud, but because he had a huge utility value to the Pats as the lone true big bodied NT. Plugging Carl in, is like replacing a spare tire donut on your sports car with an adequate replacement tire. It improves performance significantly just by addressing a previously mostly neglected job.

Nice to get a lil info on this guy, it seems like hes had a very positive impact n an area it was desperately needed. Wasn’t there another signing recently an isaiah something that looked like could be a low key bargain

Pats will need him and the rest of the run defense to be great next weekend. Cardinals have the #1 ranked run offense in football.

Loved this guy coming out of college and was pissed when the Ratbirds picked him in the 3rd that year.

Always nice when players find their way back to New England like that. Was a big fan of Van Noy coming out of college too.

Yeah, Isaiah Mack...His lack of size dictates that he's more of a gap-penetrator than gap-controller however...Still, I'd like to see him being given a chance on the game-day active...After all, can he be any worse than Byron Coward?
