New England Patriots free-agent breakdown: James Develin

Miguel Benzan

Free agency is right around the corner for the New England Patriots, who have 15 players with contracts that expire in March. Of the 15, 10 are unrestricted free agents and five are exclusive rights free agents. This is a look at fullback James Develin

My quick reaction (read: "ignorant") is the contract is not too over-priced... he's a good guy: tenacious and doesn't give up; those attributes help him succeed where physical talents (not elusive... a straightahead runner) don't make him standout.

I don't *evaluate* players well with details.... but I don't notice him ~miss~ blocks, so he must be doing a good job. The rare times the ball's thrown to him, it ~seems~ he catches it so <thumbs up>. He feels like a Journeyman player: provides some value. Might be overtaken by others, but until then, he works hard at succeeding: his role doesn't overshadow his ability. A potential "fan favorite"

2014 Role
Develin was our starting FB, which we was important is some game plans. Josh likes to have a FB on the team.

WHY WE SHOULD RE-SIGN DEVELIN
Develin is an ERFA with no choices. We should re-sign him. All the ERFA's are worth signing as comp competition.

Develin (along with Siliga) are ERFA's that had a significant role in 2014.
