NEW ARTICLE: Zappe’s Emergence is Certainly Changing Patriots’ QB Conversation

I read Ian’s piece twice. He only mentions the absence of the bevy of the skill positions. Nothing about the poor OL performance.

When James Ferentz was in he became the worst Patriots OL starter since Mike Arthur in 1994.

Corky would have turtled the rest of the game after what the Zapstah endured.

Mafi replaced Thanksdad and LG drastically improved, from abysmal to poor.

And what to say of quitter Trent Brown? He has quit on the team.

Just read Mike Reiss’s notes after the game.

The fact Zapstah is producing in the Mile High circumstances bespeak a winner who is unfazed.

If 3 QBs gone before our pick:
Fashanu with first pick
Move back into 1st and take WR Odunze

Re-sign Henry, Elliott and Onwenu

I like Rome too but not as much as you unfortunately.

Thinking more towards the end of night 1, if he’s on the board still. Wouldn’t take a ton really if we’re drafting as we should be.

Zappe is the "vet who can start right away" if he finishes this season strong.

They will bring in another rookie QB to compete regardless.

Mac's the one you trade, Zappe's the one you keep.
Can they get Malik back?

Captain liked him.

I would keep him as the Third QB in 24 we won't get much for Him in a a Trade.

Maybe for a Fourth I wouldn't do it for anything less horrible returns all around for a former First Rounder.

You take what you can get when you’re going to cut him outright anyway.

You don't take a QB unless you're sold that he's got the type of intelligence that you saw with Brady. The Pats need bookend tackles. Receivers and a QB don't matter if the line doesn't give you 3-3.5 seconds for your plays to develop.
Are you thinking they won't sign onwenu, or that he's going back to guard? I was hoping Sow was good enough, so we could go after a receiver.

My assumption is Mac gets traded to San Fran for a 5th.. he and Purdy compete in camp.. ?
Why would they do that? The guy is in the discussion of MVP. I get the competition thing, but it's clear he's their guy. I'm more of the opinion they will be able to extract a higher pick from a QB needy team. Atlanta, Washington, Pittsburgh... Denver is going to move on from Russ, there's a good spot for him too.

Why do what? I think he has everything around him to succeed. I've seen enough of Purdy that when he turns the ball over like most average QB'S they loose. So I'm going to say give him our WRs and let's see if he's in the MVP race then.

You didn't answer the question tho. Why would the Niners trade for a broken headcase when they have an MVP candidate? The question isn't if Purdy is or isn't better than Mac (he's way better)... The question is why would Lynch give up anything for Mac when he can draft a back up or sign some vet that's not damaged goods. The Niners are in a position of strength, they don't need Mac. Find someone who needs him and extract a good pick.

Please don't get me confused what I'm saying. I'm just going my an assumption, my assumption. We can all agree that Mac will not be on this roster come next season if Bill is still here. I did not say lynch or Shanahan would get rid of Purdy.

I'm simply saying when he's faced adversity they've lost. When everything around you is great kind of hard to F up..

There are countless games where Brady, Mahomes, Manning, for example have had multiple turnover gamed. But they will the teams to victory. So I'm not on the Purdy MVP train. He's a solid game manager. He's a winner.

Only in an offense-minded team. Belichick went defense heavy in the last draft after the offense woefully underperformed. And was the second oldest unit in the league.

I can see Gonzo (no brainer) and first round talent White.

But Mapu in the third? Wow. Even with prominent talent available at RT (Dawand Jones) and TE.

Mac Jones needs a high powered offense and a clean picket. Just like he had at Bama.

Zappe in college at Western Kentucky went against much superior competition and more than held his own. He’s too short and lacks good arm strength. And yet. There’s that unfazed competitive drive. He’s a natural.

He just has to learn not to get the ball stripped or throw a bad INT. I believe he will improve.

Corky was a disaster this season.
Agreed. And you make a fair assessment on Mac. That's why I said he isn't long for NE. He will be ok someone's PS or a career backup. He's still salvageable in thst capacity.

I don't agree. I think Mac has let the team down so badly that they'd be lucky to get a bowl of soup for him. I think he wakes up every morning trying to remember what end your supposed to hold the football on. He's a career clipboard holder that whatever team he ends up on they'll be praying they have a 100 point lead with 1 second left if he has to play.

I think they could trade down a bit and still get a good LT. Then use their added capital on a QB prospect. I like the move up for Odunze, he is gonna be good. Might be too expensive though, he probably goes around 16-20.

So you're saying that Mac's best chance for success is the Niners? Sure. I am saying they won't trade for Mac.

Yes. I'm saying that because San Fran wanted him.. I think they still believe Mac can be a solid QB.. In the right situation. I know he's not shown that lately.. I'm not trying to defend his play. Just saying in a back up capacity he fits Shanahan system. So it's smart for NE to trade him to San Fran.. Mac works hard, is a team guy, it didn't work out here. He's 25.. he can still be a backup in the league and have a good living. He'd be better than Sam Darnold as a backup. Just my opinion.

Ewers is returning to TX. Sanders, and Beck also returning which puts this QB class WAY down in terms of quality.

Maccarthy is the one I like if they can get him in rd 2. Penix sucks, and the only other kids who MIGHT be worth developing are Rattler or the Tulane kid.
And, both of Penix's knees are essentially bone on bone (not to mention he'll be 25 as a rookie).

Sure. I think someone will want him, but it'll be for next to nothing. I think for a needy team, he's worth more than he is to SF.
