"...Washington GM Martin Mayhew reached out to the Patriots for pick #14. Eliot Wolf told him the Patriots wanted the Commanders’ pick #16 and #97. Mayhew said that they didn’t want to part with the pick.
Washington offered #114, a 4th-round pick. The Patriots tried to sweeten the pot by adding one of their 6th-round picks, hoping to snag #97 still, but the Commanders wouldn’t part with it, and that was it.
It all worked out for all of the teams involved. The Steelers made the deal and leapfrogged the Jets, getting the player they wanted, Broderick Jones. The Commanders stayed put at #16 and selected Forbes. The Patriots took 30 seconds to put their pick in for Christian Gonzalez."

- Bill should've had Wolf tell the Commandos the same thing he should've told the Squealers: If you want to offer only a 4th, then we're entitled to demand your 4th next year too.

The Commanders' video says they would have been happy with Gonzalez or Forbes, but preferred Forbes. So they didn't care too much about trading up.

Steelers could have been the same. They preferred Broderick Jones, but it was not critical to them. They might not have wanted to lose too much in order to get him.

Can't make teams trade for what you want.

yep. Pats turned down the Commanders offer because it wasn’t good enough.

Same could’ve happened with the Steelers if Pats got too greedy.

for a deal to happen both sides need to accept it. Like Congress sometimes you have to settle for the deal you can get not the deal you really want.
