Bob George
For those of you who never thought that 16 games was not enough, this year you get 17, the first time in 43 years that the NFL extended the length of the regular season.

Your Gilmore comments are, to say it politely, far off base. Here are just SOME of the items you failed to consider

1. Gilmore isn't healthy. Why is it you feel the need to open Bob Kraft's wallet for a player who ISN'T capable of playing? So it doesn't matter who we play over the next 5 games, Gilmore isn't going to be there for Tom Brady return day.

2. So assuming Gilmore is ready to play week 7, why would you give a man a multimillion dollar raise to a man, who is only going to play less than 2/3 of the season. Maybe you give him a nudge on his $7MM salary to save face, but the kind of 4-5MM jump he might have been justified if he'd been healthy for the entire season is now out the window.

3. Gilmore has to prove he's healthy and playing to his all star capabilities before the Pats even consider that nudge. His was a serious injury that has entailed a long rehabilitation. When he DOES come off PUP, he will have only a couple of weeks to actually work on his skills. Does it make sense to give a man a raise who is likely to need even more time before he gets into the kind of playing shape to be worth a top 5 CB salary.

4. Gilmore isn't going to be here next year in all likelihood. The fact is he is STILL going to want to be paid as a top CB. But the fact is that the list of 32+ year old all pro CB's is so short it doesn't exist. So while I'm sure Gilmore can be a good CB for the next few years, he isn't going to be at the elite level he wants to be paid at. So the extra money you want to pay Gilmore for what we HOPE will be a half season of elite CB play, would be better spent on players who ARE going to be here over the next few years.

Agreed that the 17-game "Biggest Season Ever!!!" schedule ****ing sucks... 16 games is Plenty.

Agree with PFK about Gilmore... I ain't paying him one penny more unless & until he proves that he hasn't completely broken down.

Sorry not sorry, but note-whore Whitney Houston's rendition of the National Anthem on the eve of Desert Storm ****ing sucked.... The version performed at the old Chicago Stadium at the NHL All-Star game that same week was the way it should be performed.
