Great size at 6'5 305lbs, and only a Junior with the frame to add even more weight. I would love to see Wilkerson added as a DE, he can start next to Wilfork for a very long time. BB loves to pick DLine in the 1st rd so don't be surprised if Wilkerson is in a Pats uniform next year.

New England Patriots: Pats Set to Take a Closer Look at Temple DT Wilkerson | Bleacher Report

The New England Patriots are set to meet with Temple defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson sometime this week to hold a private workout, according to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora.

Wilkerson, who's one of the draft's better defensive tackles, is projected to go in the mid-to-late first round. However, in my recent mock draft, I have Wilkerson slotted at 18th overall going to the San Diego Chargers—one pick following New England.

At times last season, the Patriots were very thin along the defensive line, and they could definitely use some quality, versatile players to fill in if injuries strike any linemen.

Strengths

The one attribute that definitely stands out to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is Wilkerson's versatility—he can play any position on New England's 3-4 defensive line.

While being versatile, he's very athletic, which gives him the edge against other 300-lb defensive linemen.

Wilkerson is always in on every single play—he's got a real nose for the ball. He can get off of blocks quickly and plays at a low pad level, which gives him leverage adding to his already powerful strength.

Weaknesses

From a pass rushing standpoint, Wilkerson doesn't have too much of an arsenal or verity of moves. It appears that Wilkerson's lone and favorite move his just a simple bull rush, which he does productively.

One knock against Wilkerson is that he played at Temple and didn't necessarily face first-round talent.

Conclusion

As of late, Wilkerson's stock has been on the rise—I had him as a late first-round to an early second-round pick in my first mock draft a couple of weeks ago.

Wilkerson does have talent and potential and can bring a lot to the table.

The Patriots don't necessarily need a defensive tackle, as they already have Vince Wilfork and Ron Brace.

To me, I see Wilkerson playing as just another sub-package lineman, and on a level lower, talent-wise, than Brace.

With New England's 17th overall pick, I strongly believe that there are much better prospects available than Wilkerson. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Wilkerson is selected by New England with their 28th pick—if they don't trade out of it.

haha, yeah that statement is asinine... I like Wilkerson, I can totally envision a scenario where Wilkerson and Watt are both available at 17 and we take Wilkerson, some people on this board will be livid

Dont forget the 'W' factor...the Pats have a habit of picking guys with W or M as the first letter in their last name in the first round.

I like Wilkerson. Reminds me actually of Ty Warren. Similar size, pretty good all around 3-4 lineman, nothing special but could start for several years.

Still, I'm not sure if Wilkerson brings anything to the table that Jarvis Jenkins wouldn't offer, and 50 picks later. In this draft, there's no sense reaching for a 5-technique, there's so many of them out there.

The only 3-4 linemen I'd take in round 1 are Watt and Jordan, and Jordan I see as a hybrid guy in this system.

I characterized Wilkerson as a blending of Ty Warren and Mike Wright after the first game I watched, nothing since has shaken that impression.

I do consider him more of a pass rush/pocket collapser then Jenkins (whom I'm also high on), the other main difference, and the one which gets him that first round grade, is his lateral mobility in pursuit. Jenkins is my "pure" Ty Warren understudy (like Ty he could develop a stronger pass rush in time, but his run defense is his bread & butter), while Wilkerson brings greater potential to the table for the RDE slot.

except that jenkins has problems with stamina.........need to know if its conditioning or he's maxed out

In my mind Wilkerson is a virtual clone of Warren. Wilkerson is above average as a run defender. Very strong with his hands, he stands up the O Line guy and when the RB comes close he sheds the O Line guy very easily and makes the tackle. His lateral agility is probably better than any BB DE except Seymour. Wilkerson is also adept at setting a hard edge and forcing the play back inside. I valuable skill when one considers how slow Spikes is.

I would be a bit surprised to see BB take Wilkerson at #17, but not surprised to see BB get him in the early to mid 20's. Again it's all about value.

A trade down for Wilkerson in the early 20's would be a sensible BB 'value' move if the other top DEs are already off the board. Really, we could do worse than adding a Ty Warren clone.

I'm hoping for Watt, I see him as the second best RDE prospect available for our system, this year just behind Dareus but ahead of Jordan. I really don't know if Watt will last to 17 anymore. He had such a huge combine, I think some team may take him early, maybe even top 10. It's really the combination of his motor and cat-like quickness in a big man that makes me think he could be special. If Warren would be a bear, then Watt would be a lion, batting aside linemen then feasting on their QB. ;-)

I think I'm out of superlatives. The good news is that there's about 5-6 1st round caliber DL prospects -- Dareus, Fairley, Watt, Jordan, Wilkerson, Heyward. And then at least a couple DT guys who grade out late 1st, early 2nd rounders -- Liuget, Taylor, Paea. This draft is deep for defensive linemen, we should get at least one good one out of this year's draft. I really can't read BB's mind but I don't see him missing out on this year's veritable buffet of 300 lb monsters.

I don't care for Mo Wilkerson: too damned stiff in his movements for my taste.

No offense to anyone's opinion, above: Just getting it on the record.

Watt is an option for DE and very capable of playing DE in our system. He definitely adds more of a pass rush than any other 3-4 DE, except Dareus. The fact that Watt moved inside shows BB on tape how he would anchor against the double team.

I'm developing a case of tunnel vision on trading up for Watt. He may not fit the classic skillset for a Pats DE, but he has extraordinary raw materials and has shown the aptitude to improve his skills every single game. IMO that's what really makes for a safe pick.
