Mr. Mulligan it was nice knowing yee - Cave and Mulligan released

I realize it's just business, and I wanted Mulligan like a bad rash, but its almost inhumane to open the door to a man's dreams then slam it in his face. I am also reminded of guys like Troy Brown who kept banging on that door, smashed it in and didn't stop until his number hung in the Patriot Hall of Fame. Godspeed to all these guys fighting for the last spot.

Mulligan's a 4 year vet who's started 20 games in the league.

And he still sucks

Exactly!

Of course Mulligan is a local kid from Howland Maine that played at the University of Maine, never played high school ball because they didn't have football in the small town he was from, and made it to the NFL.

Go ahead and rip the kids, I'm sure it makes you feel good.

I wonder if Mulligan will get a mulligan.

Was just about to say the patriots took a mulligan on Mulligan.

Weird how they sign these guys for s day or two. You practice for a day and then they tell you you're cut.

Never understood people saying that a guy trying to make an NFL roster sucks, when you look at the number of HS and College FB players anyone who get a sniff of an NFL PS is an elite athlete, not compared to the very best NFL players but relative to the general population....

Why the vitriol towards trying to reach the highest level.

Some of us would have loved to get even close the where a scrub in the NFL is athletically.

Develin sux. This team is worse for having him & his suckness on its 53.

What is going on with the pro player evaluation department?

Has there ever been a period like this, cutting your own players who went through OTA's, training camp, and pre-season because the scouts loved another guy, only to release him a couple days later? How bad could that scouting be?

This is the same pro scouting department that has been bringing in dozens of $1mm off-season vets: Joey Galloway, Adrian Wilson, Torry Holt, Robert Gallery, Mike Jenkins, Anthony Gonzalez, Marcus Stroud, not to mention Shaun Ellis, Chad Ocho Cinco at the expensive end.

I mean, it's great that the Patriots set records in staffing the team with undrafted free agents. Great story! But if they had a hit rate with a quarter of those veterans the pro personnel staff is evaluating, and maybe a quarter of their second round picks, there wouldn't be eight slots available for all those udfa's.

We joke about the annual Ventrone transactions, but there is something troubling about the constant indecision. Bring them in for work-outs, sure, but don't try to lead the league in transactions. A little stability. A little commitment to the guys that make the team.

Either the scouting staff is mediocre or worse yet it's likely BB over rides their input too often. He should of course on occasion follow his own instincts, but it seems he does this too often and the player selection results have been well below par. He's not in the same league as a player selecting GM that he is as a HC.

What does any of that have to do with his abilities and talents at the NFL level?

Yes, hear hear! There is something to be said for continuity. YOu have a player you've seen for months, he's on the 53, maybe just barely but he's there. Then you toss away the bird in hand for another team's marginal player whom they've just jettisoned. This new guy has to pick up the playbook PLUS you're gambling that your evaluation of him is correct. Many times it seems it's not. Case in point, the mulligan on Mulligan.

Meanwhile your original guy, whom you've cut, is out on the street, he may be picked up or he may be a little PO'd at having been jettisoned for flotsam.

Compared to what, though? We haven't seen an experienced, professional FB here in so long
(Heath Evans?) that we've forgotten what one really looks like, and how one could help TFB
and the offense.

I read that as "Caveman Mulligan Released".

I thought, how they're getting cavemen? Very clever...not sure if they can learn the playbook, but we'll see.
