All rumors aside. I would swap Moss for Austin. Austin is young fast and extremely strong. He also has great hands and is a beast after the catch. We only have one season to look at so of course it would be a minor risk but it's much less a risk than say a 1st round draft pick. The guy is a hard worker and can definitely play. Now I am not a Moss hater, if fact I am definitely more on the apologists side. I would love for him to come back strong this season and then possibly sign for two more. Ideally I would love to have a WR like Austin, or Vincent Jackson on the other side of Moss. But at this stage in their careers I would make that swap strait up. It'll never happen though because JJ knows what he has in Austin.. Maybe he'd take a 1st rounder?

Rumors are that Marion Barber might be on the block since Felix Jones has taken the lead role and Tashard Choice is emerging. I would trade Moss for Barber in a heartbeat. Bring back the Golden Golpher backfield.
What about Bobby Carpenter? I liked him coming out of Ohio State and thought the Pats were going to draft him.
We KNOW for a fact that Moss works in the system. Why would we want to trade him for an unknown?
None of Jackson, Marshall or Boldin would make the 2010 receiving corp better in replacement of Moss. Plus, I'd much rather Moss + Boldin than Moss + Barber. This is a passing team and a passing league and we have Brady, remember?
Maroney is capable of 1,000 yards. The strategical decision not to pound any single RB that much throughout the season is one that I think you are blaming on an apparent lack of ability in Maroney. Barber is better yes, but BB doesn't seem to WANT to pound any RB for 1,000 yards since Dillon's breakdown.
And really, fade down the stretch? He didn't fade down the stretch in 07 nor 08.... and not even 09 when he had a separated shoulder.
I am a Maroney fan, but I don't think he is a back you can capably rely on to carry the rock for a 1,000 yard season. The Pats ran him quite a bit before he started to fumble. The Pats would love a balance offense.
In three playoff games in the 2007 season, he had seven catches for 94 yards and a TD. That is 2.3 catches a game for 31.3 yards and 0.33 TDs a game in the playoffs. That is clearly fading down the stretch.
In 2008, here are his games from November 30th on:
4 catches, 45 yards, 0 TDs vs. Pittsburgh
3 catches, 53 yards, 0 TDs vs Seattle
5 catches, 67 yards, 2 TDs vs. Oakland
2 catches, 87 yards, 1 TDs vs. Arizona (who quit in that game)
1 catch, 13 yards vs. Buffalo
He might not have faded down the stretch, but he was mediocre down the stretch.
I misspoke. I didn't mean that Moss' loss would make the receiving corp better. I meant this offense could be improved without Moss with the addition of a top RFA WR. I would rather have Vincent Jackson myself because he has a legitimate shot of being a 1,000 yards plus receiver the remaineder of Brady's career. Moss is gone after this season.

1) Do you think we'll win the Superbowl next year? If not then it doesn't matter if Brady throws to Patten and Aiken.
2) Moss is likely gone after the 2010 season, so if we could get draft picks that will allow us to get ahold of players for a legitimate Superbowl run, why not do it at the cost of losing Moss for 1 year?
3) There is nothing stopping the team from picking up Dominik Hixon and Kevin Walter, along with Edelman that's a very solid receiving lineup, if a deal could be had with Leon Washington it's starting to become scary. With picks that could be had from a Moss trade the whole team could beef up even more.
4a) If Moss helping the team by talking untrue smack about the Krafts, saying they don't pay when he's been getting top dollar and when the team is spending close to the cap every year?
4b)Is he helping the team by talking about "stacking his bread" after losing in the playoffs to the Ravens?
Trading him for picks is the best thing for the team, I've done making excuses for him.
Did you really just say a WR corps of Hixon, Walter, and Edelman is solid?
If we are going to get rid of Moss, we need to acquire another #1 WR who can be a game changer.
.
Aiken, and Stanbeck are shoe makers ,
When Brady won Superbowls with no name receivers he had a very good line, people forget about that
Well they also lost a chance of a super bowl, because they had a bunch of shoemakers at WR... Troy Brown, David Givens and Deion Branch were solid recievers... Aiken, and Stanbeck are shoe makers , and eldeman and tate are unknown at best...
The fact is that Moss's value to the Patriots is dropping rapidly, he desperately wants to win a Superbowl and doesn't have much time to do it and he doesn't think it's going to happen with this team, that being the case he will continue to be a malcontent and further disrupt a team sorely lacking in player leadership.
