Moss doesn't like to get hit...

I' ve heard this so many times in recent analysis, I just have to ask.
......... can anyone tell me a receiver that does like to get hit?
Why is Randy any different than most receivers?

Donald Driver. And its true, Moss doesn't. He's scared to go over the middle. A lot of guys are. But thats why you have guys like Welker who can do the dirt work for the sissy's who run go routes.

Yea you could see it on that gadget play we did against the steelers. Even with the game comfortably in our hands, Moss B* out when he saw several defenders running at him and dropped the initial screen pass. Luckily he was able to pick it up somehow, throw it back to Tommy, and avoided the big hit.

It was a crappy throw by Brady to Moss. Watch it again...Plus, there was a great block by Stallworth too.

On the very first play against the colts earlier this year, Moss ran a slant to the middle and bobbled the ball several times before he could completely secure it. Why? Who Knows, Homer

Okay so why did we stop talking about the Brady-to-Moss-to-Brady play? Unless you're Moss' friend, family member or a member of the media that had the cajones to ask him is he was scared how would you know what he was thinking? Watch the Jax game again. He was throwing blocks all day in the running game.

I was giving another play that illustrates moss fear. Listen, I'm a Moss fan but its not that hard to see the fear in his game.

There are very very few guys who run fearlessly up the middle and crossing patterns. Most of them don't end up with terribly long careers at a very high level.

Even those who do have to learn "how to take a hit". i.e. lay down under the tackler or get him to hit you sideways so you don't take the whole force of impact. But those skills require you to "be aware of the defenders" or to "take your eye off the ball". Either one of those actions makes you "look scared" to a defender.

crosses and plays in the middle are not Moss' forte. He is a speed guy. But it is obvious when he runs ends-around that he is not afraid of all contact either. He just plays to his strength.

Welker is more of an example of the guy who knows how to take a hit. Look at how he slides around tacklers when he goes down.

The thing I think the Giants and analysts are really saying when they say Moss doesnt like to take a hit; is that the REFs have been giving defenders a pass on Moss. Because he so out-skills the defenders that they will let them get away with pushing and holding after 5 yards; they will let them whack him unmercifully and NOT THROW the flag. ESPN (Keyshawn) just noted in last nights review that from the SD game that a play "was illegal" and "should have been called pass interference" but they (SD) were 'trying to hit and intimidate him'.

I am sure the Giants have noticed that the refs have been a lot more "let them play" in games vs the Patriots then they ever were in games vs the Colts. I fully expect them to fully test the refs limits.

Are you saying Driver "LIKES" to get hit? I really really doubt that.
Getting hit may not disrupt what he wants to do very much but I bet
anything he would get rather run his routes with out being molested.

Yeah, Moss the sissy just has two defenders on him all game so everybody else can catch the ball in open spaces. Then, I guess those tough guys get hit when they try to run with it after making the wide open catch. Moss had been on the two highest scoring teams ever. I guess if he would have been better he might have been on the 3 or 4 highest scoring teams ever. That is, given that there have been been 1000s of NFL team seasons and he has played a whole 10 years.

Yah. I love all the "all you have to do" analysis. Simple as it is, it's a wonder nobody can do "all you have to do," while accounting for all the other weapons in the Pats' offensive arsenal.

"All you have to do" is bump Moss at the line, double or triple him thereafter, hit him when he doesn't have the ball, cover Stallworth, Welker, Watson, and sometimes Gaffney, and bottle up Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk. That's it, pretty much. I mean unless Vrabel's on the field.

Come on guys. You can name one or another strategy that's had some degree of success, but the worst this team has done, even playing the best defenses the league has to offer, is the mid 20s.

The Giants are not one of the league's best defenses. They'd be better off concentrating on getting a perfect game out of Eli -- he's been on fire since we first played the Giants, and if he truly excels, the Giants may make a game of it.

PS - Hines Ward loves to hit. "Yet another reason Rothlisburger needs to shut up... even if he got Randy Moss, he wouldn't have a #1 wide receiver who can take hits and hit..." Which is very important if you don't use receivers for catching the damn ball.

Ahhh ... brings back memories of our Super Bowl victory in 2001. Ty Law and Co. were beating the crap out of those Ram's receivers so bad it was almost abuse. Near the end of the game all the Patriots secondary had to do was cover the sideline routes ... the middle was empty ...

I agree, he is probably one of the most scared guys in the game. Have you seen him jump after the guy behind him surprises him? Moss jumps about 4 feet in the air, then he is so scared, he even throws his hands in the air. And if we get lucky, oh say 23 times, we get a touchdown.

First off, no one LIKES to get hit. They take the hits because it is part of the game. Moses had taken his fair share of hits during the season. He has even thrown a couple decent blocks.
