Well, I don't now that my take on things is correct, But I do believe it makes the most sense. If you read the story (assuming Mort is correct, of course), I believe my explanation is the correct one.

I heard Mortie say a Patriots "source" told him that Bb has been doing thetaping for years to have a file on each DC for Future use and if that DC changes teams, etc which Mort said would explain why he did it against the Packers and Lions even though the Patriots only play them every 4 years. Doesn't that somewhat back up Bb saying this was all for future use?

In his interpretation explanation to Goodell hopefully BB didn't say that he tapes (has been taping) teams for "future" reference. If he did, then this might be why Goodell is coming after him asking for additional information and documentation. If BB didn't say anything about taping other teams for future reference then the league should have a difficult time proving the Pats taped the games because the Pats could argue , as the Dolphons did last year, that they bought the tapes from someones else, like maybe Fox Network as they seem to have a nice tape collection.

Exactly what I, and others, have been pushing since the beginning. But no one wants to think logically, everyone wants to jump on the "CHEATER!" bandwagon and bash the pats.

It has gone so far over the top it's ridiculous. You can compile the same set of library tapes of other coaches as long as you aren't taping it from the field? And that's the big friggin story? That's the big friggin offense? That's the reason to demand 7 years worth of tapes and notes? ARE YOU SERIOUS

I said something about the Patriots "bible" of information on another website a few days back. Yes, the Patriots have a bible of information on other coaches (HC, DC, OC, QB coach, and others) but they have a bible of information on everything. Every player in the league has a book, and every player on a common foe has a giant book just about him, his tendencies and everything you could think of. The Patriots have simular books on their own players as well.

When Deion Branch went to the Seahawks Tom Brady sent over the Patriots book on him. This book was huge and even the Seahawks commented on how they had never seen anything like it before (so much information on one player) especially for a player on your own team. That's what BB's about, information.

...which is why I read this as one thing and one thing only: Goodell has decided that he doesn't want to win the Superbowl this year. Period. He wants a pretty little Superbowl between pretty little teams with no black eyes -- and he's personally pissed at BB for seeming too blase and talking about "interpretations" rather than groveling.

IF the reports are accurate, and it's a big if, think what they're asking: "Please hand over all of your competitive research that you use for gameplanning, and keep no copies. We'll just hang onto it for a few months (i.e. the rest of the season) to check it out just in case there's maybe something bad in there." Why not just cancel the team's season?

Like someone else said, I'd decline and tell Goodell to get a court order - today has proven that the NFL can't secure the tapes so I wouldn't hand them over.

I don't think Goodell wants to keep this alive, but the mediots with league sources do. This was part of the agreement since Thursday night, but Mort is attempting to flush it out to create a refreshed spin on the story.

I wonder if the Pats' silence re the punishment and the infraction was part of the agreement.

At some point, one has to wonder if there is legal recourse. If perhaps mr kraft should sue the NFL. Where do the patriots get their reputation back? At what point does the commissioner wonder if perhaps this is snipe hunt is detrimental to the league as a whole more than the Patriots?

If I were the patriots players i really would go the 'black hat' route and become the truly bad boys of the NFL. because if they were to get angry and evil..i'm not sure there would be stopping them.

at least until Godell suspeneds BB for the rest of the season, and takes away all the pats draft pics for the next two years.

As I said on the thread about Goodell apologizing for the leak :

"Appologize and be fined ? F*ck that. If I were Kraft I would sue the NFL and I would sue Goodell personally for releasing this tape to the media. I'm not a lawyer but I have no doubt there's something viable they can sue him for.

$100M against the NFL, $20M against Goodell."

I know this will likely just be more white noise with the size of this thread but here are my thoughts:

I was fine with the punishment before. It was severe and timely. This is ridiculous. Let's look at the timeline.

Goodell has known since Sunday (at the latest) that NE was taping opposing DCs. He has known since Monday (at the latest) that NE had done it before. He obviously discussed the issue with BB and Kraft prior by Wednesday (at the latest). He made a statement and imposed punishment on the team on Thursday. BB issued his statement the same evening. The whole deal is wrapped up nicely.

But then he waits until today to make this demand? That reeks of abuse of power and intentionally affecting the team on game day. What changed since Thurday? If Goodell really believed BB and Kradt weren't repentant about the issue during their conversations, why wasn't this part of the original demands? If Goodell really was upset about BB's statement, why didn't he request this on Friday?

I am not all that bothered by the request. I am bothered by the timing of it. Other than Goodell wanting to interject himself on the team on gameday, I see no reason why he waited to make this order.

Edit: If this is just the media catching up, then I am not bothered.

There is no good that can come of any of this. None. Zip. Unless there is a radical change in the landscape very soon, the patriots are forever tarnished. they will be penalized so far and deeply that any future will be in doubt. this is snowballing like nothing i've never seen.

The tapes have already been shown, they show 3 Jets sending signals into the game, then shows scoreboard. It goes back and forth like that, from across the field !!

Sorry, I'm going to wait a few days before agreeing, my understanding is that the tapes are nothing, I've seen stills, their boring !!
