Molden and Guyton and Brown

Brown sucks.

BB screwed up.

It happens, that's not the problem. The problem is that it's been happening too often since the end of 2008.

Just hindsight. It is hard to see the projection of a player from practice to game. I am sure Sergio was making plays on our receivers during camp. I am sure he definitely showed something for BB to choose him over the 'departed'.
Our offensive rebuilding is almost complete, about two piece and we are set.
The defense just needs about three imo. We are not as bad as it looks.

1.) Why do people always toss out the hindsight claim when it's so rarely a valid point? In this case, there were a boatload of us talking about how bad it was that BB got rid of both Sanders and Meriweather.

2.) Unless you're talking about the likes of Julius Peppers/Jared Allen, Lamar Woodley and Ed Reed, you're fooling yourself if you think the defense is only 3 players away.

If practice is making Sergio or these scrub players look better than they actually are, then they need to re-evaluate how they are evaluating these players in practice.

We are even worse IMO. The only saving grace is that BB and his staff know how to scheme in the red zone and take full advantage of the confined area. Our players inability keep up with faster offensive skill players are negated by the fact that we no longer have to defend the deep threat. This is the reason why we are in the middle of the pack in allowed PPG despite being god awful everywhere else on the field.

1 starting safety
1 depth safety
1 depth CB
1 rotation OLB

Keep the 1-year guys on the DL

Maybe one more DE

3 was pushing it, but we're not THAT far away.

In a 4-3

2 safeties, minimum
1 CB, minimum
1 LB, minimum
3 DEs if both Carter and Anderson go, 2 DEs if one of them goes, 1 DE if both stay

That's 5-7 players there

In a 3-4

2 DEs
3 LBs, minimum
2 safeties, minimum
1 CB, minimum

That's 8 players there

The Patriots' methodology in evaluating players is "different" than other teams in the NFL. The organization places more value on a player's football IQ, commitment to football, take to coaching and the team concept more than some other teams who place a higher level of emphasis on speed, size, arm strength, etc. Some more so than others obviously.

Over these last few years, you can't argue with the team's regular season record, but you can argue that the team has not replaced the talent level that "bought into the system" that was here during the salad days.

I still believe in their approach to team building. They just need to continue to be maniacal in finding top-end talent that are a match to organization's core beliefs.

Sergio Brown, Guyton and Molden are spare parts that serve a purpose. By no means are they the solution.

Don't you just wish.

Actually, BB is going to be remembered for the number of games that he has won, and for being competitive year after year in a league that deliberately makes that extremely difficult to do.

As much as I'm disapointed in this d, I think your right. He will be remembered as the coach that got to the playoffs with a no name D.. Hopefuly, he'll be remembered as the coach who went to the SB with a no name D

Belichick made the decision before the season that he would rather have Brown at safety than Sanders.

Sure, Belichick might wish that he didn't mis-evaluate those players.
I wouldn't disagree with you on Brown, but not Barrett. You cannot predict injuries

My questioning of Bill is a lot less about letting Sanders Merriweather and Page go to start the season, than his inability to find someone other than James Iheadabu since all the injuries have started to happen and it was clear that Brown is nothing more than a special teamer.

I hate to say it and I know nothing about the player but I find it a bit frustrating that the Jets could go out and find a guy who was good enough to be a 2nd round pick and has some experience starting in the league in week 14 and we are still grabbing receivers from Ivan Fears and turning them into DBs. You'd think we could find some street FAs with more experience that our own receiving corps.

As for Merriweather, he's quickly playing himself out of the league, and Sanders is only starting for Atlanta because of injuries, though I'm sure if BB had 20-20 hindsight, he'd love to have him
