Patriots Injury News Milton Williams "Could Miss Multiple Weeks" [update: IR, out at least 4 weeks]

Not really, imo. It forces them to be disciplined about not bringing him back prematurely, and opens a roster slot. I think the roster slot is a big deal right now.

It seems they might have chosen to put Boutte or Stevenson on IR if they had known how long they’d be out, to help with roster management. Stevenson has already missed three games. Although he’s practiced he might not be back for next game, and with the success Henderson is having they might not rush him back for Cincinnati. Boutte has already missed two games and hasn’t even started practicing so he may be out for another couple of weeks. Putting either of them on IR could have made roster management easier. And now Jennings has gotten hurt and missed one game (active but did not play against Jets) so they’ve got several roster slots tied up with players who are unavailable due to injury.
Agreed here. What's encouraging is Vrabel said he could have and wanted to go back in the game. But Vrabel wanted to get ahead of if wich is the right approach.

With the bye week coming up and the extra days off plus the treatment his likely getting can definitely see him back for the post season.

We've sustained some hits to key guys this season just like other teams we've faced.

It's pretty laughable that you accuse someone else of not knowing WTF they are talking about after YOUR imbecilic take that they are doing this to get Swinson some playing time.

No. You were being stupid in your take on the injury. The fact you think that the decision is only about needing a 53rd man shows how utterly F'in ignorant you are about the game of football. They went with 52 for the first 5 weeks. Saying that they went with 52 "MANY TIMES" is ridiculous f'in take on your part.

Since you're an ignoramus spewing BS, maybe you should educate yourself on High Ankle Sprains. The average recovery time for a High Ankle Sprain is 46-62 days. That's 6.5-9 weeks.

They don’t know what they’re talking about, and neither do you, if you don’t know what an IR move is. It has nothing to do with the care the player gets, it’s a gamble to open a roster spot.

Im thinking the sprain was pretty severe, anything borderline imo they would not ir him. Rham for example had a turf toe which is a serious injury and they let him stay on the roster. Hes missed 3 games so thats about as borderline you can get without ir’ing someone. And hes much more replaceable than milton, so Miltons prognosis must be clearly worse to the doctors.

You think bringing up Swinson right now was a big deal?

He had never been elevated. I'm not sure he'll even be dressed. Do you think suddenly some team came calling? There's no evidence.

If they brought up Johnson (I think) because he was out of elevations, ok, but I'm not sure roster spot shortage fits in this situation.

Right and there's even what amounts to two BYEs that totals six weeks off.

To call that now is a bit concerning, but hopefully he will be 100% for the playoffs.

Yeah Its a bit concerning. Another possibility is they could also just be saying we don’t see ourselves risking actually playing him before x amount of weeks , even though he may be ready in 4-6 weeks, so might as well ir him.

I read somewhere that Gonzalez likely was fine for the Steelers game but they just sat him in an abundance of caution

We are 9-2 and just need 1 or 2 wins more to get to post season.

Goal is to go deep in playoffs and not be 1 and done team with HFa in playoffs.

I like this conservative approach which preserves our best players for playoffs while testing depth and finding hidden gems for the last hoorah , plan out alternate game time strategies and opportunity for offense to play from behind in next few games so that we are battle tested by playoffs.

We might win all out or lose some games in process . Let's hope we win out even in the face of adversity.

I don’t like NE being w/o MW for any amount of time. I’d argue he’s been top 3 most important non-qb on this team. Missing BUF & BAL is a big one imo.
Not ideal that's for sure. But I also believe milt had an ankle earlier in the season I thought I saw on the injury report? The depth on the defensive line will pay dividends.. I'd be more concerned if we didn't have Barmore & tonga.. to help mitigate the loss..

You’re right with Rham’s toe and earlier it was the same with Gozo’s hamstring. This is a sprained ankle, not a toe or hammy or pulled calf. Not many players in the nfl or nba miss more than 5 weeks with a sprain. Plus this injury happened 10 days before the next game, and there’s a bye week involved. So IR means 6 weeks not 4 in this case, and in 5 1/2 weeks there’s a huge game with Baltimore. There’s got to be a chance his ankle would be well enough by then.

As I've been saying Patsy.. while not ideal for any team to loose one of thier best players.. we could work around losing any player except Drake. We lose Drake the season is over! Yeah.. it stinks as milt is a force on thw defensive line.. we need for guys to step up and I believe we have the coaching for guys to do so..

Here are some teams we've seen and will see that have lost some of thier best players.

Miami lost Hill
Cincinnati lost Burrow
Buffalo lost Ed Oliver ( equivalent of Milt for us)
TB lost Evans and Godwin
Titans without Ridley

Jags losing hunter after expensing 2 first round picks .
Sf losing purdy to significant game time
Ravens losing Lamar for over 6 weeks
Sf losing bosa for the season
Chargers losing alt I believe

Our injury report is nothing. We just have zero depth that's the challenge. Now is the time to build it out as adversities will come to every team. How we overcome that is Hallmark of a great team.

If its a high ankle sprain, recovery team is 4-6 weeks or longer depending on how severe from what I’ve seen. The team has shown so far to be ultra conservative with the multi week injuries which would have him towards the 6 weeks mark. Hopefully its just precautionary, i get that the ravens game is a big one but im okay with them playing it safe on that

Agreed. This is why I mentioned that we've seen teams that have lost some of thier best players.. don't forget 49ers losing Fred Warner as well.

The depth on the defensively line will be immense while milt is out. We.. imagine if we didn't have Barmore, Tonga then we'd really be in deep trouble.

We could sustain any loss except for Drake.

Agreed, we do have depth concerns namely at the edge, iol, and s spots but i truly feel the way this team is coached and everyone is locked in Drake is the only singular injury we can’t overcome. Vrabel and company will make it work as long as you don’t see a crazy rash of it.

Yes sir. Reminds me of the Brady era.. we know wou could overcome anything save for brady.. 2005 ravaged by injury.. we still made the playoffs..
Vrabel's not going to allow for teams to run on us with the loss of milt.. Tonga and farmer are 2 of the best interior run stuffers on the team.

Losing Diggs would hurt pretty bad IMO. He may not be going for 1500 yards and an All-Pro bid but the amount of clutch, chain moving plays have been huge for us.

For sure.. there are guys that of we lost would hurt.. but we could scheme around Diggs, as we have for Boutte.. in wich that has hurt as well.. Boutte is a big play guy for us. #10 is the guy we could ill afford to lose..

See this report from October.

Could he has aggravated an existing ankle injury??

Yep, i would have never guessed when boutte missed 2 games that hollins would step up with 170 receiving yards. Cincinatti will be a good test for us without milton, their defense sucks but very high powered offense
