Midseason Thoughts on Chad Ryland So Far

Nick Folk is kicking 95% on his FGs this year. That could make a difference in close games.

What's even worse is BB wasting draft picks on an even worse kicker when he didn't need to and could have helped another area of the team instead.

Do I have a problem with moving on to Ryland? Nah. Had to happen eventually.

What abso-freakin'-lutely baffled me was the decision to NOT let Ryland kick in the preseason. What stupid ass thought of that?

Chad Ryland is kicking 70% FG this year. His whole season has been a struggle session.

In comparison Nick Folk made 86% of his kicks for the Patriots last season.

And for reference in 2023, Folk has been on fire making 21 of 22 kicks for the Titans for a 95% FG accuracy and made all of his PATs as a bonus.

This decision by BB looks almost as bad as replacing Jakobi Meyers with JSS.

What a WASTE of a pick! We could have bundled that 4th rounder with something else to move up for an OT to help the offense.

Instead BB replaces a kicker that didn't need replacing with someone even WORSE!

because Folk is a 40 year old veteran kicker...

Ryland is a rookie kicker

you cant leave out the cons with Folk, which was a weak leg including kickoffs.. He couldn't generate touchbacks, didnt have the leg.. thats why they had to have someone else do kickoffs for him

I also remember several times last year where we were at about the 35 and didnt attempt a kick because of his limitations with range/power... and that doesn't get any better as the weather gets worse into winter

Ryland has a leg, he just needs to consistently use it..

and what i had already commented on in an earlier post is, if you worship the stats only, it doesnt account for the at least 3 misses that were a direct result of bad snap and hold operation earlier in the year...

you take those out and hes hitting 88%... which is why i said it looks worse than it really is from a stat perspective

Folk is in the twilight of his career, he should have been on a contender... even if we still had him this year, it would change nothing and we would still be looking for a kicker next offseason, because a 40 year old Folk is not part of our future

This is less a cheapskate move than it is a massive, Massive talent/value miscalculation by Billy & his brain-dead toadies. Again.
