Brown was probably on a pitch count having just come back from injury.

Early in the season the O-Line was suffering from poor execution, it was a lot more than simply finding the right combination of players.

Putting Karras at RG did a lot to fix the problem because the guys they had been starting at RT were all in the 23 year old range. Karras played center, knew the calls, knew the assignments… he was another brain on the line.

Onwenu has been a pro’s pro since he arrived, he’s advanced for his age and a load to handle. It’s good having him as the swiss army knife guy who can play anywhere along the front.

I only had red zone yesterday but from other blogs/threads etc I did notice that Onwenu was not playing so often and wondered why. I guess it was to do with the coaches and their favoured OLine set up.

Continuity on the O-Line is important, it's something coach Scar used to preach when he was here. You don't want to be making big changes to the line, subtle tweaks are better.

Weird to see Agholor with so many more snaps than Bourne...
Seems his main job is decoy these days.

Even weirder that Bourne has 3 WR with more snaps than him, including Harry, when I believe he just gained our receiving yards lead.

THIS IS WHERE IS DRAW THE LINE !!!! Harry is both #1 on the field and in our hearts. That he plays a lot is not in question !

As long as all of the OLmen came out of the game healthy, then I next want to see Brown rotate at LT with Wynn, and Wynn rotate at LG with Karras in Atlanta on Thursday in preparation for the Brown - Wynn - Andrews - Mason - Onwenu lineup vs the Titties in two weeks.

Is it weird to use Karras ? From what I can tell, the OL’s been gold since he became a starter.

I like Karras. He's been awesome. I just meant it's weird to bench Onwenu. But after thinking about it I'd rather he be waiting in the wings at RT for when Wynn gets hurt and Trent moves to LT
I think what’s weird is having six OLinemen who are all good enough to have controversy about who starts where.

Enough of the QB controversy over whether it’s Hoyer or Mac, Patriots Nation is on to our six way OL controversy. Thank goodness they cut Ferentz or it would be even more complicated!

I got over it after the 1st quarter. Realized I didn't want Onwenu at lg at all, I'm ok to have him platoon at RT and 6th tackle until Wynn inevitably gets hurt at which point Trent moves to his best position at LT

I honestly don’t care who plays where, as long as they win. They can play WRs as DBs, LBs as TEs, whatever. The coaching staff knows a lot more than I do, and sees how everyone works every day. I’ll give them space to do their job without second guessing them. And the same goes for the owner. He will know when the coaches are not doing their job and I trust him to take appropriate action just as I trust the coaches to cut players who aren’t performing, e.g. Cam.

The coaching staff knows a lot more

BB yes but not others who:
- started Durant / Cajuste for 6 wks and thought that was a good idea
- Benched Karras for no reason for 6 weeks
- kept starting NKeal Harry last year until Nkeal got hurt. Meanwhile benched Jacobi Meyers for 6 weeks last year until NKeal got hurt.
- Same with Damien Harris. Benched and only played until Michel got hurt.

So again, aside from BB, would not automatically assume the staff knows what they are doing. Think about our D3 OLine coach seeing film of Durant/Herron/Cajuste get his arse whooped at Right Tackle every week and keep thinking this is a good idea for 6 straight weeks.

I understand the concern, but these are our 5 best OLmen - no disrespect to Mongo, who if he didn't have to start would be one of the league's better backup C/Gs - and I strongly believe that this particular lineup is the best way to maximize their strengths while minimizing their weaknesses...
I also believe that there is still a difference between the Left side of the line and the Right side, even in the current era of chicks digging the long ball; and the Pats have generally placed their more athletic Gs & Ts on the Left side...Trent Brown is an exception, but Isaiah Wynn has shown to be an unreliable LT but with the body of a Pro Bowl-caliber LG who also has college experience at that position; Onwenu is already one of the better RTs in the league; and we were champions 3 years ago with Brown as our starting LT...

IMO, the sooner the coaching staff comes to this same conclusion, the better our chances of sustaining offense vs PO-caliber defenses will become.

Fair points Captain and I respect your opinion, I'm just not sure we can put Wynn at LG in your scenario without knowing if he has practiced there at all this year. He seems like he would be perfect there, with his blocking ability and him playing that position in college, but it's been a few years.

Wynn played left guard last year for a game and was fine.

Interesting, I didn't realize that...we've gone back and forth a few times this year on the O-line and I think we've mostly been in agreement of what the O-line should be. With TBrown looking so good last week and Wynn being a great run blocker, would you take Karras out of the starting lineup and have an O-line of? Curious to see what other posters think...

T Brown
Wynn
Andrews
Mason
Onwenu

Very interesting thought, like I said in my response to @captain stone....I think this is our best 5, just not sure their ready to move Wynn to guard. It seems like our line has stabilized when Karras and Onwenu were inserted/moved.

I agree with this starting 5, been pushing it since preseason.
Brown - Wynn - Andrews - Mason - Onwenu.

and since Wynn gets hurt a lot, plug in Karras either at platoon LG or whenever Wynn is out.
