Michael Lombardi coming to New England?

Now sign Greg Schiano!

No thank you. Anybody that signs the best man to man corner in the game and plays nothing but zone is not welcome on the team, IMO. As for Lombardi, hopefully he can provide some blowback in case BB finds his next Tavon Wilson in the second round.

If he brings Josh Gordon and Joe Hayden with him I'm all for it.

Maybe Lombardi will trade Mallet back to Cleveland for the Browns 2 1st rounders completing the transaction hes been working on?

I think its doable. The Pats will have 3 1st round picks in this draft.

The teams owners always knee jerk while shooting from the hip blindfolded, hoping to hit a bulls eye. Can't blame them too much. Extreme luck is the only way that city sees another trophy in any major sport.

And then there's Boston.

As for Lombardi coming back to Belichick, here's to a very happy reunion and a huge celebration in about a year.

The Browns would be crazy not to pull the trigger on that deal.

Lombardi did help to put together some great teams in Oakland before Al Davis lost his mind and destroyed the team with his crazy meddling. He helped to bring Rich Gannon from the scrap heap as a JAG QB and he turned into an MVP in Oakland.

And let's not forget he was the guy who got the Colts to waste a first round pick trading for Trent Richardson.

Pretty awful move to be honest. Lombardi is a bum and has a terrible reputation around the league.

Where does he have this terrible reputation? The only person I know of who even implied that he was horrible was Al Davis who was upset that he let Randy Moss go to the Patriots for a 4th rounder and he felt that Lombardi and Belichick colluded in some way even though no one else wanted Moss at the time.

I was hoping that Lombardi would go back to Bill Simmons' podcasts. Less than zero chance of that happening now.

Seems like he knows something about WR's and TE's in his time at Cleveland.
Get us the next Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron and he's fine with me.

I am a fan of having another experienced set of eyes in the room that BB would listen to. If Lombardi can talk BB out of drafting the next Ras I Dowling then I am all for it.

Add Tavon Wilson and Jake Bequette to that list too.:snob:

You know when Browns fans are celebrating a guy being dumped it's hard to get excited about him coming to your team...

I'm certain they felt the same way about BB. How did that work out.. BB knows, fans don't know.

They were both there before Lombardi

As well as Chandler Jones, Gronkowski, Dennard, Mayo, Wilfork, McCourty, Mankins, etc, etc.
Pretty sure I want BB making decisions not Mike Lombardi.

Neither were actually drafted by Lombardi.

To be fair, Lombardi acted as consultant to this team 2010-2012. Draft was pretty good those years.

So at the very least you can't say it hurts this team.

That was one of the best trades the Patriots ever made and one of the worst anyone else has. That said the Brown's drafts when Belichick and Lombardi were working together flat out sucked. I think Holley has it right, Lombardi sucks. This is bad news for the Patriots, if Caserio leaves and he is the successor it will be a terrible thing for the Patriots.

Not sure why anyone would have a problem with this?

Where would we have been if Parcells had come in and evaluated Scar the way you guys are evaluating Lombardi? Scar probably would have been fired for being part of the 1-15 and 2-14 teams.

Bottom line Lombardi has a lot of NFL experience and has worked with BB more than once. This is still BBs ship and there is nothing wrong with bringing in someone he is familar with and who has years of knowledge.

We have no idea what position he would take. It could be Floyd Reese's old position as a consultant in charge of contracts and salary cap. Reese was never a candidate to be in charge of personnel. Lombardi may not be either. My guess is that Belichick would promote from someone already in the staff.

Lombardi had a lot of success in Oakland with personnel. A lot of it was in free agency (Gannon and Jerry Rice come to mind), but he built a team that probably should have won the Super Bowl in the 2002 season.
