Meyers - Forgotten or undervalued?

And usually their price is close. It's often a question of whether the player really wants to stay in NE or is happy to leave.
Despite what people think the NEP will pay market for the players they REALLY want (and what they can get away with).

People often mistake a difference in salary distribution philosophy with the Bill/Kraft being "cheap". They put more emphasis on the middle class in roster construction than a lot of fans would, and try to get players at as close to their true value as possible. They would rather get two players who are 6/10 for 6/10 money, than one player who is a 10/10 but is going to get 13/10 money. They'll still pay top dollar for the right guys, they're just pickier than most fans would like them to be about who is actually worth that.

I think this is true and they're also making projections on their young guys and potential free agents: "Can I replace our home grown 8/10 who is getting ready to walk with a 6/10 first year player and a 6/10 FA?"

The only way they can let Meyers walk is if Thornton shines . If we have decided to not keep agholor we should get Tre Nixon some snaps .

Yup, it's a constant string of re-evaluations. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is the only way to do things, or that the value they put on certain players (good or bad) are always right. Far, far from it. It's just the structure they want to go with.

I hope Thorton shines, but it feels like two different positions to me. If Thorton shines, there goes Algohor. I don't see the replacement for Meyers on the team. If they let him walk, then I think they're targeting a slot receiver in FA.

Agholor is gone that we can all be confident of that and good riddens.

No what I meant was having at least 1 home grown player in team because most likely agholor and Parker are gone.

If thronton is still learning the ropes then for continuity sake we need Meyers .

Parker still have another full year on the books at a reasonable cap hit.

Yep. Agholor and Smith are either gone or back at a reduced rate. DMC is done. Wynn too. LT will be a question. Depending on how things shake out hey will have anywhere between $50-$80m in cap space for 2023.

Not sure about JJ. He'll be 30 next Sept. Love him too but need to be careful for CBs 30 and older.
LT will be question????

Brown is under contract next year he is still just 29 and has been playing phenomenal. He definitely enjoys playing here and given the dollars aren't huge next year I think they can pretty easily work something out long-term.

Now when do we get Meyers an extension ? He has significantly bumped his compensation . It's definitely in the 14-15 million range .
14-15 million? My god. That would be the worst contract ever

He’s a horrible athlete, he can’t run away from anyone, he’s no threat to score touchdowns. That said, he can catch the ball and move the chains. A reliable solid number number 2-3 WR.

7-8 million per year sounds appropriate

I had forgotten they extended him. LT is fine in 2023. Very reasonable $ as well.

I guess you might be surprised by how much he gets in FA. He might end this year with 4 - 5 TD and around 1000 yards .

That's a fair price 5 years ago.

Oh C'mon NG: I had my doubts about Meyers too but this year he has shown that he's head and shoulders above this group. He's way better than Agholor and Bourne dude was out two games and still leads all Patriots WR's. That's not good if my name is Agholor - Bourne and Parker to some extent. Yeah Meyers will be a volume catcher who catches it and take shots after the catch: he's like an old school receiver who moves the chains. Yeah Meyers is not going to beat you with speed and get a lot of yac but he'll give you consistency I'll take that.

There is zero shot he gets that much from anyone. Zero. Teams didn't even offer him in RFA after an 80-catch season.

$14 million per year is given to number 1s. Meyers is no number 1. Even the biggest homers on this board would agree

Agholor a 900 yard WR for Oakland, was given 9 million per year by the Patriots and that was a terrible contract. Highly doubt meyers will get $14 million

You just said everything I said. Moves the chains and can catch. He’s good. $7-8 million per year.

Now if the football gods decided to give him some athletic ability, magically make him run faster, and he suddenly began scoring touchdowns at an alarming rate..then we could talk 14 million
