Donald Brown RB Connecticut at #23 ........Scott Van Pelt interviewed the kid today on ESPN radio.....seems like a guy with his head screwed on really well........sharp, does alot for the community.....I respect Kyper,......Just DON'T see the Pats goint RB in the 1st round......do any of you?

No. But if Brown somehow lasts to 47 I pull the trigger fast and trade Maroney for a 2010 pick (preferably a 2nd round pick).

I can't see a RB at @23 but who really knows who BB has penciled in as a value pick there? I certainly don't... I would think a CB, OL or OLB would be much more likely at #23 though... We'll all find out in about 42 hours but who's counting?

No TV in my house is safe if that's the case.

Running backs transition quickly into the NFL from college. The team doesn't have any needs in this area just yet. I'd prefer to spend the picks on other positions which require a little seasoning and learning on the bench, such as DT or offensive line.

The Pats can trade away one of their second rounders for a first rounder next year, and use that on a running back to replace Maroney or whoever. So I say no running back this year.

Yeah, it's theoretically possible, but I just don't see enough upside to do it. At that point, you have to trade away/cut a RB, and that destroys a lot of the value.

Ditto with CB: you've got Hobbs/Springs/Bodden + Wilhite/Wheatley, and I can't really see any rookie cracking that group in his rookie season.

Malcolm Jenkins would be warm at safety for a portion of the year though.

I just don't see this happening. Kiper has been sniffing too much of his own hairspray.

Let's see. We can have our RB of the future on a five year contract. Don Brown is a first value in both Kiper's, Huddle's and Gosselin's eyes. Others have him as a first round value or close. He ran a 4.46 40, is 210, and led the NCAA is rushing in 2008. He may very well be the best value at 23. I suspect that Belichick could find a role for him by the beginning of 2010 when we expect our rookies to start to contribute heavily. And, he is just a bit of an upgrade from Green-Ellis whose roster spot he would take.

I don't want us to draft him. There are others I would rather have. However, he could be the best choice when we come up to draft at about 6:30 on Saturday evening.

O please people. If the Patriots drafted Brown we would all be happier than pigs in ****. If Belichick sees something in you then you have a good chance at having a great career if you apply yourself accordingly. I would be happy with Brown on this team.

He also saw something good on Maroney.

I would throw my TV out the window if we picked RB in the first round. Frankly there is no room.

IBBWT for me.

That said, it would still be a WTF? move for sure.

No doubt noone makes more out of defensive draft picks than BB. He is the best. #1. As far as offensive skill position goes? I would say he is right in the middle of the pack. I'll give him credit with the o-line. I like what he does in free agency on the offense though.

So no, I wouldn't be happier than pigs in ****. I'd be very skeptical considering our 3rd down porous defense and lack of pass rush was not addressed priority 1.

I like Maroney a lot, so I don't see the value in a round 1 back. If Brown is on the board at 47 and BB sees him as the heir apparent to Faulk, then I don't have a problem with it even though it wouldn't be my favorite pick.

To bad Maroney never applied himself enough to stay on the goddam field.

Hmmm..Offensive draftees off the top of my head. Brady, Branch, Mankins, Light, Koppen, Neal, Givens, Cassell, Graham, Watson, Pass(to a degree), Maroney when he can legitamately stay on the field, Gostkowski.

Thats a more than decent group of players.

Yeah, I'm with you--I'll feel happy no matter who it is. If we did go RB with #23, which probably isn't too likely, I'd say 2 first rd RB's in 4 yrs may lead me to believe that Belichick may not be as satisfied with Maroney as some of us originally thought. You at least can't deny that it will make people question LoMo even more--at the very least. None of us can know if BB if happy with him or not, but it would certainly be even more debatable than it already is right now.

By acquiring Fred Taylor this yr, and making him the highest paid back behind Faulk, then going 1st rd on another RB, the writing may be on the wall. Even despite his good 4.4 YPC stat, and everything else people will bring up.

FWIW--I think he has done fine, despite his injuries. So please don't start throwing flames at me for bringing up the obvious. Chances are, when #23 comes up Saturday night, it probably won't be a RB anyway. I'm personally still holding out hope to move up and get Jenkins, which probably isn't gonna happen either. But if Belichick sees value with any position or player, I'll trust his opinion over my own, and all of the others here too.
