On ESPN, Kiper has us taking Linebacker Patrick Willis at 24, and Safety Reggie Nelson at 28.

Is he on crack?

Or is there a realistic chance that both of them fall that low in the draft?

It's not likely but realistic ? Actually it is. If you look at his mock, which I won't post as it's from a pay area, no-one he has going before 24 is at all unrealistic and the only eyebrow raiser between 25 and 27 is USC WR Steve Smith.

So, yes, it's realistic although not likely.

I saw the picks on NFL Live this morning and I admit, it got a little excited about the draft. I like Nelson more so than any other safety not named Laron and I think Willis can be a beast on defense. Something about Paul Poulzansky worries me and hearing his name along with any of the Patriots picks forces me to hind in my happy place... ie, the signing of Adalius Thomas.

Doubt Smith goes as high as Kiper has him going and I think Jarrett drops behind Bowe, Meacham and Ginn. The favorite time of year is coming soon!

This is my dream 1st round although hard to envision happening. We do know one thing as of today and that is 23 teams will pick ahead of us.

Based on what I've seen here and other places there are about 30-35 players who have been projected into those 23 spots so someone will fall it's just a matter of who. We go through this every year thinking so and so won't be available and sometimes they do turn out to be available. Fingers crossed.

I hope Kiper is right, but his mock drafts are terrible. I think he is a better talent evaluator than his detractors give him credit for, but he really doesn't seem to take teams tendencies and needs into effect as much as he should. He does it on a basic level.

Yep. Patriots biggest need is linebacker. Willis is the highest rated linebacker on my board. Therefore Willis to the Pats.
