It's pretty good. But there are also a couple of very good reasons for why we have so much cap in 2018, and for why it will change a lot, even before signing new players.

First of all we don't have a QB on the roster in 2018. The second reason is that we haven't signed our young defensive stars yet(except McCourty). So that will eat up a lot of cap.

Yes, the patriots have enough cap room to sign a mid-level player or two, and still have enough cap room for the season (including reserves). Many teams have much more. The teams in our division have less.
