Kevin McNamara: Brady's first Pats roommate saw the fire early

Brady’s competitive nature was palpable. In the new book “Belichick and Brady” author Michael Holley described a scene in which Brady and Eitzmann are walking off the field after a long afternoon of practice at Bryant. Brady was the fourth-string quarterback behind Drew Bledsoe, John Friesz and Michael Bishop. Eitzmann was battling for any spot he could find on the roster. Brady looked at his friend and said “I’m going to beat out Bledsoe. You watch.”
“That happened,” Eitzmann says. “At the time, Bledsoe is a god in New England and Tom is fourth string. He says `I’m going to beat out Bledsoe.’ I said, “OK, good for you.'”
