"Warmth before confidence"? I dunno. Is this a re-parenting daycare center or professional football? I kind of understand this culture change to accommodate (coddle) younger players, but at the same time wonder if he's going too far. I guess we'll see whether going warm and fuzzy = a kick-ass football team.

From the article:
One day, Mayo decided the back wall needed art -- something unique and personal. Glaser, the highest-ranking woman ever in the Patriots organization, tapped into a relationship she had with Rob "ProBlak" Gibbs, a Black Boston native who is a visual artist and organizer, commissioning him to do the wall mural. The result is a grand, colorful piece that prominently features a young Black kid in a football uniform, looking at Mayo and other Patriots legends in uniform, envisioning he could be like them one day.

"Diversity matters on our staff, Black and white, young and old, former players and non-players. Players' mental health matters. Relationships with players matter," said Mayo, the first Black head coach in Patriots history. "People matter. What you stand for matters. You have to work at it and build it."

Robert values "executive" experience so he hires someone with one year's experience as a celebrity intern at a healthcare company.

I really don't care. He's 0 and 0. Just win Superbowls. If he goes Kapernick then I will get upset big time. The team Stands for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Well I guess I might have a problem if he taking the team all the way back to kindergarten & elementary school w this whole PLEDGE thing.
-but will they still play dodge ball at recess or is that too ego threatening?

I agree with @Salsalife ... Let Mayo be Mayo and do his thing... Not just one way to get things done... I'm giving him wide latitude in his first year... Better his own approach vs a mini BB clone... we've seen how well they have panned out in the past on other teams... it might take him a while to find what works, what doesn't for him... And that's okay...

Commissioning a mural that prominently features yourself does not sound like “We not me”. The message that a black child (or a child of any race) should grow up dreaming of being an NFL football player one day is misguided. Mayo should be handing the kid a book, and I don’t mean a playbook.

"Hard work works"
“Process, Progress, Payoff”

These are terrible. “Do your job” will always be the GOAT message and there was no valid reason to remove it. It isn’t necessary to wipe away everything related to Bill’s historic tenure as HC.

The asterisk symbolizes the north star, because, as Glaser said, the north star "constantly moves but it's something we always strive for." This is another core idea for the team.

Despite the significant changes in the Patriots building, the levels of respect for Belichick are still immense -- the team put his picture on a wall featuring other noteworthy coaches, executives and scouts who left a huge mark in New England.

Adding a photo of Bill to a wall with 15 other dudes shows him “immense respect”. LOL. Cameron must not have an Apple TV subscription and seemingly doesn’t know what immense means.

"With Bill, we probably would have traded back to get more picks.…."

“Like Bill, I believe in draft-and-develop long-term. It's always good to have a quarterback on a rookie deal. At the same time, I don't want to get into the game of, 'I really like this guy, let me trade back 3 picks to pick something up.' No, just take him. If we feel like he's an impact player, then take him."

Mayo just can’t help himself. He cannot pass up any opportunity to reference Bill and talk about how he is different than him while simultaneously inferring that his (Mayo’s) way is probably better. I don’t disagree with “No, just take him” but if he wants to move on from Bill, he needs to stop referencing him publicly. For f*cks sake. Say less, Jerod, at least until you accomplish something that is actually meaningful in your coaching career (and I hope that this day does come, as long as he is the Pats coach).

Who gives a ****? If they win then it’s validated. The incumbent players certainly seem to like him because several took pretty good deals to stay on. If they have terrible years for 2 seasons and the rebuild goes nowhere then this stuff will look bad, but until then I really don’t care.

Yes, of course you have a point. Maybe this radical new approach will be wildly successful. But after plunking down more than $3k for season tickets following 8-9 and 4-13 seasons, I chafe a bit at being told to "be patient," especially with all this SJW emphasis from the head coach. I have yet to see Mayo express or demonstrate a sense of urgency about WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES in 2024.

I think it’s just so long since actual football happens that we have nothing better to discuss than what Mayo says and does in the media. Real football cannot come fast enough.

Arguably the GOAT coach was just fired and replaced by a neophyte implementing polar opposite team culture philosophy. You don't consider that worth discussing? This is a message board for football fans, after all.

Sure. I just think that if Mayo wins, then not as many people will care about his philosophies or say that they're helping him connect to today's players. And if he loses, everything he does will get bashed. We just really have no idea how he's going to be at the actual job of coaching.

I believe we need to pump the brakes on the critique of the supposed daycare and all the all BS talk of late on Mayo's style. speaking for myself.. let's allow the team to take a snap first, and be put in adverse situations before we know for sure if that style permeates to success. Just like we've seen excellence at the QB position for 19 seasons, and excellence at HC for 24 seasons we have high expectations as fans. I'm not here saying anyone is wrong to have an opinion. I just feel like the judgment of Mayo's a but premature. Maybe it's because he's being himself to the media, and not acting like a complete sentence to a question is giving away the nuclear war codes. We the fan in Massachusetts are hard working folks, who just want to have a team watchable on offense, keeping our schedules clear for Sundays like we used too, and hopefully have a team in the post season in January.

He is a players coach and feels there is importance in emphasizing diversity within his culture while stating that black/white all players are valued equally.

This is a nothing burger you are choosing to be outraged by. If he wins, who gives a ****.

I have been in business 40 years .... I give way more bro hugs to my customers and their customers who know me than back in the 90's and it's not even close ... it's a sign of respect.
