Look at the First Eight game do you see a win there??

I'm having a hard time dreaming of one with Biscuit.
The best chance is week 1.. becuase they can go anyway.. maybe we can catch the defense laughing at the Benny hill show offensive line.

When he fails to do much the first half, the boos will come if they haven’t already and Maye will playe…
I think this is the crux. When we're losing and the fans start chanting for Maye, we'll see how Mayo responds.

One thing that hasn't been talked about is that we know the team is prepared to lose games this year. But how many? I think Mayo survives a 4-13 season. I think he survives a 2-15 season. If we go 0-17, Mayo might be out. He's got to know his own leash only goes so far.

That had been the logical scenario all along and I get it. Except Maye probably needs to see the best defenses to learn faster. He needs game reps to develop.
He definitely will be no worse off in 2025 starting 10 games this year vs 17 but he may take 4 games to hit his stride, or 8 like Jordan Love, who sat 3 years and still needed 8 playing games to get comfortable. Games and off season is where talent like Maye develops. He’s not getting reps in practice like training camp once season starts.

So instead of throwing away first 4 games, with Maye or Jacoby, you now might throw away the first 8, assuming Maye plays week 5.
All fine if you are just playing for draft position which it seems is more important than extra wins this year. I’m always in the win as many as you can camp and many the best guys, next year is never a given in NFL.
I guess is better to be friend with the OC to play instead of actually having to play better.

Brissett being the starter in 100% undeserved. The guy played worse with the 1st offense than a supposed project rookie with the 2nd team. The guy has been handle the job without having to perform for it.

Where did the idea that past experience isn't part of consideration for the competition come from? Of course that's part of the equation. Whatever your opinion of Brissett's play is there was a bar that he set and so long as his preseason performance leaves you thinking he still will meet that bar then that's the level of competition Mac had to pass.

Now I accept the argument that he might have passed that bar but let's not twist things into a pretzel.

I would say overall this spring and summer was pretty close and that's a credit to Maye that he made it close as most didn't think he would be this ready this early. So I think the leash should be pretty small on Jacoby but I'm ok with thinking he still gives us the best chance to win week 1 or even the whole season but if he's not winning they better be prepared to pull the trigger.
I think it just comes down to inconsistency in Mayo's comments, which I guess is nothing new.

I think he does. He's going along with the plan.. as I said that was a organizational plan from RK on down.. So if it gets 2023 ugly expect mayo to pull em.
Mayo didn’t have a say in the plan. AVP and Wolf put the plan together. The plan will change only if AVP and Wolf want to change the plan.

Mayo just a spokesman at this point.

Mayo said that Brissett is the starter for THIS SEASON, not just for week 1 or for right now. A reporter asked about this and he said as long as Brissett is performing the way they expect he will be the starter.
It’s only odd because they should expect Jacoby to kind of suck overall. 61% completion and 18-30 record as a starter duh!
So if he sucks like in his career then he starts the entire year? That’s what he said! LOL
If they really believe he can win you games and be a legit starting NFL QB they just all need to quit and move on.

I would bet a good amount of money Mayo wants Maye to start and AVP and Wolfe outvoted him.

Now he has to get the entire team behind Jacoby, so he has to say what he said, but he doesn’t believe it, it’s for the team.

This Team needs a QB who can throw darts down the Field and not another Mac Jones.

Can't wait for a Team to go up Two scores on us Jacoby will bring us back.

What I don’t understand is they named Maye the backup. So what happens now if Brissett gets injured 2 snap in in week 1?

If they are fine with him playing in this situation, they should pbe fine playing him right away.

To me, I think they promised Brissett he would be the starter. A move that only bad organization and bad coaching staff would do

TBH all I heard was we need a few weeks to get our **** OL to gel and the 1st 4 games are against tuff defenses we are going to have JB start. The good thing is I imagine that Drake will get some play in 2nd halves so he will get acclimated to the real game speed.

I kinda feel like Jerrod is ****ing with the media.

They are just being kind.

I am genuinely confused about the rush here to throw Maye into the fire which is what starting him now means.

The goal is for him to be our starter for 15 years, who cares about week 1 or season 1?

As expected, they want to sit Maye as long as possible to help his development. I don’t think they’ll go the Jordan Love route with Maye, especially since the Brissett is a stop-gap journeyman. I’m guessing Maye takes the starting job around game 5 this season.

Best possible move, protect Maye’s health and confidence until you absolutely need to start him. Jacoby also gives us a strong chance to land the first overall pick if he doesn’t get killed first.

I agree, red-shirt for this year provided Jacoby survives. Usually I’m in favor of starting rookie QBs but not with this line.

Happy with this decision. The implication that it’s for the entire season is just lip service. He let the true plan slip yesterday when he said regarding the (then) looming decision: “what’s best for the team right now may not be what’s best for the team weeks from now”.

I’m hoping Maye sits for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Remember when Mayo claimed the best QB would start week 1?

Remember when Mayo claimed we would burn cash in free agency?

He’s literally done the opposite of what he said he was going to do.

Now we have no LT, biscuit at QB, and a fan base on a hair trigger waiting to run our starting QB out of town the 1st time he throws an INT.

And here is the best part: Mayo earned it.

If they don’t play him because they are afraid he will get injured this organization is in the wrong hands.

And those 4 weeks will not be the difference between Maye being an elite QB and being a bum. Maye will have little development in those 4 weeks.

He will get almost no reps in practice and you don’t develop by watching film. You become better at football by playing football not sitting on the bench. Maye needs to play.
