Do I believe JB will do anything special no. But I have to accept this is probably the right choice.Much as I like Maye I think this was the right move. Not because Maye isn’t the better QB, but I think the team knows they’ve gotta figure out and let the o line settle in before Maye starts.
I believe week 5 is the sweet spot for Maye, let Brissett have the first month, it’s not the end of the world.
I understand your point, but I think that is undermined by Mayo harping on the "competition" all summer. If this was his plan then he should not have tried to make things a competition.
AJ said it from the beginning we probably signed a QB worse than the previous #10. Number one pick here we come we going to be terrible. We knew this was the plan from the day JB was signed. Seeing atrocities at the QB position particularly last season has as all starved for hope at the position. Maye is such. So I need to reel back in my expectations because I know it's probably going to be ugly on offense. I wish it weren't the case. My question is: at what point does mayo sit JB ? How bad does it need to get?
JB is here becuase of AVP, this is AVPs offense Mayo's given him full autonomy on the Offense. So if it's starts to look like Last season on offense and guys on defense are barking.. trust me Mayo's will pull him..Brissett looked terrible against Jags that doesn't count for anything?? We lowered the bar with his signing we shouldn't just hand somebody to job who hasn't earned it. Maye with his small sample size showed me has has it Biscuit with his body of work doesn't!
Yeah I think Mayo saying he’s the starter for the season is bs, he’ll lose the team if that’s the case.I'm leaning towards that.. I'm calming down Myself. Do I believe JB will do anything special no. But I have to accept this is probably the right choice.
How many times have we seen a coach name a starter for the season? A lot. And sometimes those plans go out the window during the first game. It's just NFL speak and I don't think the players give it any more weight than we do.Yeah I think Mayo saying he’s the starter for the season is bs, he’ll lose the team if that’s the case.
Where did the idea that past experience isn't part of consideration for the competition come from? Of course that's part of the equation. Whatever your opinion of Brissett's play is there was a bar that he set and so long as his preseason performance leaves you thinking he still will meet that bar then that's the level of competition Mac had to pass. It’s a competition, and Maye was the better player and outplayed his competitor, but lost the competition presumably because of experience, which is something that was always true and can’t be changed via a competition. So was the competition ever real?
That had been the logical scenario all along and I get it. Except Maye probably needs to see the best defenses to learn faster. He needs game reps to develop.Much as I like Maye I think this was the right move. Not because Maye isn’t the better QB, but I think the team knows they’ve gotta figure out and let the o line settle in before Maye starts.

Agree. I believe JB is on borrowed time. Becuase he's the vet here.. knows the offense and has AVP to back him. If he stinks it up.. then Mayo's gonna pull him.. simply put.Yeah I think Mayo saying he’s the starter for the season is bs, he’ll lose the team if that’s the case.
Mayo has 0 control about what is happening on offense. I think that’s pretty clear now.JB is here becuase of AVP, this is AVPs offense Mayo's given him full autonomy on the Offense. So if it's starts to look like Last season on offense and guys on defense are barking.. trust me Mayo's will pull him..
I really think they'll be better. That's doesn't mean much, I know, because they were 1991 bad last year. Even if they are just average, they will be much better because the D is good.Yes. We know guys on defense will bring it. Offense.. is wait n see..
I think he does. He's going along with the plan.. as I said that was a organizational plan from RK on down.. So if it gets 2023 ugly expect mayo to pull em.Mayo has 0 control about what is happening on offense. I think that’s pretty clear now.
Look at the First Eight Games do you see a win there??Where did the idea that past experience isn't part of consideration for the competition come from? Of course that's part of the equation. Now I accept the argument that he might have passed that bar but let's not twist things into a pretzel.
I would say overall this spring and summer was pretty close and that's a credit to Maye that he made it close as most didn't think he would be this ready this early. So I think the leash should be pretty small on Jacoby but I'm ok with thinking he still gives us the best chance to win week 1 or even the whole season but if he's not winning they better be prepared to pull the trigger.
Yes!! Absolutely. Those early 90s teams were bad.. I remember I was in middle school in 90 when tippet came to do a DARE speech in a walking boot!I really think they'll be better. That's doesn't mean much, I know, because they were 1991 bad last year. Even if they are just average, they will be much better because the D is good.
Good thing I got my Sunday ticket discounted.Look at the First Eight game do you see a win there??

I'm having a hard time dreaming of one with Biscuit.
That's two sensible takes before 9:30am, sir. We will not have this level of intelligence here.I guess I would question whether this was actually the "plan". Yeah, I'm sure Jacoby came in as the defacto starter, as any veteran should over a rookie. But if Maye had shown immediate command, I think there was definitely a path to him winning the job. I think there was a competition, it's just not always easy for a 21 year old rookie to beat out a 9 year veteran right away. And what we see in preseason isn't the whole story. I've seen breakdowns of Maye's film that show he's got some things to clean up first.
And (thought they'd never admit this publicly), I think they want to get their house in order a bit first before Maye steps in. Mayo first time head coach, AVP and Covington first time (basically) playcallers, and an OL that's still in flux. It's not that they don't care if Jacoby fails or gets hurt, but getting him mentally prepared to play is one less thing they have to worry about while finding their footing. The competition is about more than who completes the most passes. There's a LOT going on behind the scenes that we just don't have access to.
