Mayo 8:30 press conference (Edit: Names Brissett the starter)

I think you're reading it a bit too literally. It's not set in stone, but it serves no one to say, "Jacoby is the starter for now but he's just a placeholder." It's setting the tone that Jacoby is the guy, so everyone else follow his lead. If he doesn't play well, or the team is 0-4 and Maye continues to pop, they'll make the switch. Saying "for the season" is coach speak. We need to stop looking for the juiciest interpretation of everything everybody says. I guarantee you the locker room is fine with this decision.
I understand your point, but I think that is undermined by Mayo harping on the "competition" all summer. If this was his plan then he should not have tried to make things a competition.

When will JB be pulled? 0-3? 0-4? Because I'll say.. Peppers and the guys on defense will go right to Mayo and put the pressure on him..
I don't think it's a record thing. I think it's a Maye is ready thing.

I am not seeing a clear cut Win with Biscuit unless a Team gets' decimated by injuries. Our First Eight 0-8.

I think it's a Maye ready + schedule thing.

if you think the offensive line is bad and team is going to struggle wouldn't you rather avoid putting your rookie against 3 probable playoff teams with elite pass rushes on the road in his first 4 games.

How much better does Maye look after Brissett stinks for 4 games and gets eaten alive in Cincy, San Fran and New York then Maye comes in against a more manageable schedule and doesn't have to face those games.

Absolutely! 2025 is when he and Wolf will be judged. I think Mayo has done a excellent job so far as a coach.. reports have been he's been no nonsense during camp.. he just has a far different personality but same principals as his predecessors.
I could really care less what he says to the media, just like I didn't care what Bill didn't say to the media. I care about how the guys play for him and if the team is ready to play.

Wow!! Man.. my patriots spirits is broken like a old cadillac on 4 flats..

Mayo said that Brissett is the starter for THIS SEASON, not just for week 1 or for right now. A reporter asked about this and he said as long as Brissett is performing the way they expect he will be the starter.

So much for a competition huh? I’m sure the locker room doesn’t appreciate that. Will other players believe Mayo the next time he says something is a competition?
Do we not count the first several weeks of camp where all of the reporters were saying that it was clearly Jacoby ahead of Maye? I know Maye has been better in the preseason games, but the team hasn't really valued the preseason games very strongly in the last several years. They're almost an afterthought to the joint practices.

I think the team will understand that the competition was close and that Jacoby is the better QB to start the season both for the team and for the future. That said, if we lose the first four games, everyone knows we're going to see Maye sooner rather than later no matter what Mayo says.

Yes. We know guys on defense will bring it. Offense.. is wait n see..

Interesting this decision was leaked to national guys like Rap and Schefter before our guys like Kyed and Daniels…

Much as I like Maye I think this was the right move. Not because Maye isn’t the better QB, but I think the team knows they’ve gotta figure out and let the o line settle in before Maye starts.

I believe week 5 is the sweet spot for Maye, let Brissett have the first month, it’s not the end of the world.

I guess that gives us the best chance to win week 1. But based on preseason I'm not putting up with a lot of losing before going to Maye.

Maybe. I tend to think that's it's a mentally ready thing. Maybe mentally isn't the right word. Academically. There was a guy here that said he had the answers to the test. I think they need to get Maye to the point where he can pass the test.

No one likes Felger and Maz but they were joking yesterday that they had to tell Schefter first before they made any announcement

This is the right move - and we all know it.
As for Mayo saying "for the season" - it's figure of speech & to protect Brissett from playing tight while looking over his shoulder.

Fact is - and we all know it - the pressure of losing (which we'll do a lot of) will force the change to Maye by midseason.
Maybe as early as wk 5, but could be wk 9.

The 2nd half is really not that bad of a schedule - the Titans, Bears, Colts, Cards, Chargers, Bills x2 won't be that good this year.
Rams & Dolphins will be tough.

Players text their agents from the meeting. Agents text Rap and Schefter. Kyed and Daniels talk to someone they know on staff after the meeting.

We knew this was the plan from the day JB was signed. Seeing atrocities at the QB position particularly last season has as all starved for hope at the position. Maye is such. So I need to reel back in my expectations because I know it's probably going to be ugly on offense. I wish it weren't the case. My question is: at what point does mayo sit JB ? How bad does it need to get?

Brissett looked terrible against Jags that doesn't count for anything?? We lowered the bar with his signing we shouldn't just hand somebody the job who hasn't earned it. Maye with his small sample size showed me has has it Biscuit with his body of work doesn't!
