Mayo 8:30 press conference (Edit: Names Brissett the starter)

Mayo said that Brissett is the starter for THIS SEASON, not just for week 1 or for right now. A reporter asked about this and he said as long as Brissett is performing the way they expect he will be the starter.

So much for a competition huh? I’m sure the locker room doesn’t appreciate that. Will other players believe Mayo the next time he says something is a competition?

Asked what he meant about Brissett being starter for “the season” and if there’s a plan to start Maye after a number of weeks Mayo says he doesn’t want to get into hypotheticals and the organization believes Jacoby gives them the best chance to win right now.

I hope Mayo is just giving coach lip service and behind the scenes they have a planned date for Maye because if he genuinely believes this team can be successful with Jacoby Brissett then i question if he knows what he's looking at.

I don't know how sustainable his "plan" will be when they're coming home for the Dolphins game 0-4 after losing 27-3 to SF and 30-10 to the Jets and he's telling everyone how Jacoby is starter for the season.

You know we stands to suffer Tyquan Thornton we'll never know how good he can be now. We are Starting a QB who can't get our Fastest player the Football Biscuit doesn't use the entire Field. Mayo is really wishing upon a star.

Mayo please play the Guys or Guy *Maye* who give us the best chance to win.
Your prayers didn't get to 1 patriots place in enough time my guy PF2..

My only question how bad does it have to look before RK steps in?

I think we made a mistake with Mayo I was optimistic but now I'm not feeling him he's seems clueless. I can't wait or *maybe not* to see his in game adjustments real time.
He literally has not coached a game yet. Right now, he's trying to be everything to everyone. Pump the brakes and see what happens. I guarantee who he is today will not be who he is in 2025.

I think you're reading it a bit too literally. It's not set in stone, but it serves no one to say, "Jacoby is the starter for now but he's just a placeholder." It's setting the tone that Jacoby is the guy, so everyone else follow his lead. If he doesn't play well, or the team is 0-4 and Maye continues to pop, they'll make the switch. Saying "for the season" is coach speak. We need to stop looking for the juiciest interpretation of everything everybody says. I guarantee you the locker room is fine with this decision.

Yeah, that’s the thing. If they’re getting trounced and Brissett is obviously limited in his playmaking ability everyone will pretty quickly remember what the kid was doing just a month prior - especially those defensive veterans who were in this same position last year getting screwed by Mac Jones. Except this time there’s an actual good alternative option right on the bench.

Mayo: Jacoby gives us our best chance to win.

Ok then.
When will JB be pulled? 0-3? 0-4? Because I'll say.. Peppers and the guys on defense will go right to Mayo and put the pressure on him..

Well going on NFL history it's pretty simple, if Drake Maye turns into a franchise QB then Mayo will likely be the coach here for a long time and if he busts he won't be the coach here in 3 years.

If Bill Belichick couldn't survive a QB miss in the first round, zero chance Mayo survives one busting 3rd overall.

Mayo can't admit to the placeholder thing, and everyone down on Rte 1 and all of New England know that's what he is. 100% coach speak. Another sensible take, my friend.

This is a rebuild year. Or two. We needed an experienced HC and and experienced GM to oversee the process. We have neither. We know the reasons Mayo was hired. One has to do with the fact Robert thinks he's a nice guy. You know the other reason. Neither has anything to do with his competence. So basically he's a sort of vanity hire. Wolf was hired - promoted - because it was easy to do so and because it pleased the Krafts at the time to say, "Poor little Eliot, Mean Bill never listened to him."

So it's a charade of the sort which has become all too usual these days. If it lasts past this year, I'll be surprised. It shouldn't really last even that long. Don't get me wrong; Mayo is indeed a nice guy. So what? I wish him well, but happy talk is cheap.

Considering our woeful O line this is probably the best choice..
Start Brissett and assess this decision after a couple of weeks..
Maye has only played about 50 preseason snaps and had about 20 NFL practices, give him some time.

Absolutely! 2025 is when he and Wolf will be judged. I think Mayo has done a excellent job so far as a coach.. reports have been he's been no nonsense during camp.. he just has a far different personality but same principals as his predecessors.

It's not like this would be the first declaration Mayo has made that needs to get walked back in a week or so. That's just who Mayo is. He says more than BB did but it means even less.
