Mason Graham vs Abdul Carter

I’ve pretty much mocked Graham or Hunter to the Patriots every chance I get but have been coming around to Carter.

Love what Carter brings, he’s a freaking game wrecker. Can’t deny his game, motor and attitude. He’s a perfect hybrid who can be a chameleon out of the de or lb position.
It’s the lack of run stopping that bothers me.

I’m wrong a lot and might be again, but like I mentioned, it bothers me that they took him off the field in some running situations. That’s college football. The Oline stunts, pulls and traps only get more extravagant and effective in the NFL.

He’s got huge upside and athleticism with amazing speed so it makes him tough to bet against. Looked dominating at times and the real deal as a pass rusher.

Hard to discuss BPA with #4 pick. Hunter, Graham or Carter are most common choices. However BPA for one team does not mean the same player has the same value for another. Vrabel has to decide who fits best to our scheme. Hunter and Carter's tapes looks great, both are explosive, striking. Graham plays in the middle, DL is not as catchy position as WR/CB or LB. However it does not mean Graham is worse player.
I'd be happy if one of these is taken by Patriots. My personal preference is Hunter, Graham, Carter.

His tweet was all about the only players he would consider at 4 if i trade couldn't be made.

I was simply saying how I viewed them. I would take Josh Conerly over any other OL in this draft.

If John Hannah had been a DT…

Call me Karnak but Mason Graham will be our guy: Carter/Hunter are going one/two. Would have liked #1 overall for a possible haul but Jehrod Clueless had other ideas.

If John Hannah had been a DT…

Could Mason Graham wow Tennessee and Cleveland that would be interesting. Imagine if Barmore get's cleared with that guy: we would have one of the better DLines in the League. Graham and Barmore will keep OC's up at night: still a Great possibility.

Bedard said Carter has some character issues.

I've watched a few cutups of the Michigan defense, and I was concerned how frequently Graham takes a breather. I get substitutions and rotating the DL to keep everyone fresh, but he was barely above 50% in the (admittedly limited) games I reviewed. Very powerful, quick, and disruptive when he's in, but he was simply missing for a lot of pivotal plays. He also has a tendency to burst upfield and leave behind running lanes if he doesn't meet the RB in the backfield.

I'm not saying he's not good. Talent is clear and obvious. First rounder for sure. But I am a little surprised at the top five chatter. I think he's got some major conditioning work to do in the future, and he's got to rein in his play style to fit what the scheme asks. No more spin moves that go nowhere would be a good start haha.

Maybe that marshmallow thing wasn't too far off.

In all seriousness, I did some research to see how much of an issue this is. It's there but perhaps not overly serious,

'1-tech' DT Defensive snaps 2024

Deone Walker - 540 (1 game less)
Kenneth Grant - 547
Mason Graham - 548
Tyleik Williams - 586
Walter Nolen - 587
Derrick Harmon - 591
Alfred Collins - 592
Ty Robinson - 598

So there is a bit of a dropdown for the Michigan guys as you rightly point out, but we're only talking about 40-50 snaps over a full season or 3-4 snaps per game.

What's the answer at EDGE rusher if we don't draft Abdul Carter, something I think is increasingly likely.

Carter probably will be gone before we pick at #4 (Thanks Jerod!!!).

Different position.
well I know Keion played some DT because of the health issues of Godchaux and now Barrmore. So I was thinking in terms of that. But Titans also could be shopping Harold Landry?
