This one is interesting. I did not expect him to make the roster anyway. That said, the team will now still very cheaply retain his rights next year when he will (presumably) be very much recovered from the injury that depressed his value in the first place.

Speaking from a personal level, wish him and his family the best this year and I hope everyone stays safe.

His family had child early this year.

Now bring back Zuber please.

I can take losing Hightower , cannon, and chung but this one I dunno!

Belichick has to be encouraging this.

You saw it here first.

Its a shame that injuries have plagued Lee.

Even if Lee somehow made the NE roster I had no hope that he could stay on the field.

Maybe if they lose a couple of games, the season is terminated in September and the Patriots win a lottery to get the first pick from all 0-2 teams. Seems more plausible than the season being completed in full.

Worst team in the NFL over a 16 game schedule? Not a chance.

Tangentially related - something I’ve been very curious about which Miguel confirms, whether signing bonus proration still counts this year or if the FULL cap hits this year for opted out players are moved into next year including the proration. If the full hits are moved into next year, Pats will have about $35m in cap space this season...

Now, that said, I don’t think they’ll go out and make a big signing in FA with that money. But let’s just say Cam looks really good over the next few weeks and Bill loves the fit... Could Bill theoretically extend Cam right now to a long-term deal now that he has money available and not have to risk free agency next year? If Cam is interested, of course. Just thinking out loud.

Not Bills style fix the defense or trade for OBJ and Njoku package deal

No worries, we have the Def Leppard guy...

What are the Patriots waiting for replacing these players who have opted out?

Ehh, not a huge deal, but I liked Bill's bargain bin WR selections this year and thought that both he and Byrd had a decent shot of making the team and being productive.

His career is over

Lee might know he is not fully healed and this way he has a chance next year when healed. If he sat out 2020 without a contract (before Opt Outs were possible) it is doubtful he would get a chance in 2021, so he signed a deal without being fully healed. This gives him the time to heal and a chance in 2021.

Sign AB

He comes in fresh for when the real season starts.

I agree. I assume there is action behind the scenes, like when Snacks Harrison visited, but no announcement yet. Agents know the Pats might be signing players now, so I am sure they are all calling. Curiously they did sign Hastings and Lewerke back.
