Marcus Cannon

The article brought out how Cannon has long arms and that he wasn't using them to his advantage under Googs. Now Scar has reminded him of that and now he's a good player a remarkable turn around. Cannon now looks like Bruce Armstrong in pass protection can't believe my own eyes.
Well don't tell Capt. Stone how you feel because in another thread he's STILL thinking that RT is our biggest weakness and need......and I can predict we won't see a comment of his on this thread. Way too positive about Cannon

The "Genius of Scar" mantra doesn't mesh so well last week given the semi beating Brady took forcing him into Wheels Brady mode....but yes....Cannon was not the reason Brady was getting popped every other pass.
Maybe Buffalo's pass rush looked so lethal to me was because NE's pass rush looked so feeble. No genius work on that side of the ball....just trades

He took a beating because he had to hold the ball for so long while waiting for someone to get open.

While I'm sure Scar's return has certainly had a positive effect on Cannon's play, I think the biggest factor in Cannon's improved performance this year vs. last year is health -- Cannon suffered a major foot sprain (aka turf toe) against the Colts, and never got the chance to get right when Solder and Vollmer's injuries forced him back onto the field full time.

When has that stopped him?

Cannon has talent but never could find a spot on the OL where he could be a starter. At best he was an adequate backup replacement at RT. This year, he has turned into a quality starter at RT and still seems to be improving. Kudos to Scar in changing Cannon's technique. He may well be Vollmer's successor at RT.

Cannon's extension was one of the least popular contracts I can remember. Now it looks like an incredibly savvy move. May the Collins trade take the same path!

I owe Mr. Cannon an apology. His turnaround has been nothing short of remarkable and yes, I was wrong about him. Carry on your fine season, Sir.

Hey question for you people that wanted Cannon gone because it saved $3m on the cap. Do you still feel that way?

No. This is a wonderful development. I was among those advocating for a trade or early round draft pick to improve the depth at tackle, especially last season when we saw such a breakdown on the OL and a patchwork of guys out of position.

One thing I will say is that Vollmer's injury - and I hope he makes it back - was a critical part of Cannon's emergence. The reps, the timing with his line mates, the ownership of the position, wouldn't have happened had Cannon not be thrust into his current role. I'm thrilled for him and the team.

In Scar we trust.

This is an example of why so many of our players excel in this "system" and do not do as well in other systems... even though Cleveland is a wonderful "family atmosphere", except for the drunk cousin, Josh and Johnny!!!!

Extend the BEAST!!

And please cut Waddle next year ... waste of cap

Extend Vollmer for an extra year(2017) ... Cannon for another 4 years (gtd money the first 2 years) and draft a T to prepare for Vollmer's departure

Been really pleasantly surprised by his play this year. I have to admit, I wanted no part of him in our starting line up. Glad I was wrong!!!!

Yeah, same more or less. To be fair he was bad last year (likely due to injury) and was bad through the first three games this year, but he's really stepped it up over the past month. He's definitely aided by our TEs and by Brady's quick release, but at worst I'd say he's playing at solid starter level, which a lot of teams can't get from their actual presumptive starters. The Vikings or Broncos would kill to have someone like him right now.

I watched the Bengals game yesterday. I saw Cannon get beat 3 times on the same move. The rusher rushed straight up field so Cannon was moving laterally then the rusher would stop while tossing Cannon aside with the momentum.

I don't remember the end result of the plays, I think Brady got rid of the ball already on one of them. I wasn't quick to go after Cannon the last 2 years so I'm also not going to be quick to praise Cannon until I see more games. I'll try to pay more attention to him when I watch the squealers and Bills game.

I don't feel bad for wanting Cannon gone based on his play in '14 and '15. He wasn't worth having on the team the way he was playing - and not just for the $3m savings, but at all. Scarnecchia's belief that he could fix him is probably the only reason he still has a job in NE. There certainly wasn't anything demonstrable on the field that would justify his roster spot, let alone his salary. That being said of course I'm glad BB/DS didn't bail on him because he's been as good or better than we could've expected of any other Vollmer substitute.

I wanted to fire the Cannon far away from New England... I wanted him gone after the AFC title game. But I am not a GM.. but honestly I have never seen O linemen literally not touch a DT or LB play after play.. He was totally over matched. Maybe he was hurt. Glad he is doing well now.
