Manning on Brady's injury

I post on a few different boards, and I was pleasantly surprised at the reaction of most of the Indy fans (yes there were exceptions). Most of them felt they too were robbed of the rivalry and wished Tom a speedy recovery.

I agree about Colt fans having a lot of class on the Brady injury. I visited ColtFreaks and they all had great things to say about Brady and gave their condolences. It was nice to see.

i think a lot of teams' fans reacted teh same way, with some exceptions for each. that's what i've gathered from just glancing at other boards.

good for manning. at least he's being civil.

I know we all go on that we don't like Manning very much, but that's the rivalry. That was a classy thing he said and I would venture to say that he's a classy guy--I think that Tommy probably has pretty good taste in the friends he chooses (he's sure got great taste in women!).

I can't believe I'm actually saying this (and I'll deny it even if tortured), but if we can't win it all this year, I hope the Colts do. After they won it in '06-'07, I developed more respect for the Forehead. Also, I noticed that the insane media ball-washing had subsided greatly, which I didn't really understand.

Sure, Pats/Colts is a great rivalry, the best in the game. However, it is minus the out-and-out acrimony and pure fanbase hatred that the Sox/Skanks rivalry has, and I really hope that doesn't change.

It's unlikely there are two players in the NFL who have a better understanding of what it's like to be the other than these two guys. While bitter rivals who I'm sure want to crush the other on gameday, the reality is that it's hard to imagine two professional athletes who would have more empathy for one another than these two.

Yeah, Magic and Bird are on pretty good terms too, I think. It's weird, part of me wants to dislike Manning, but I guess I just don't. He's a good QB and seems like a good guy.

I agree. Seriously, what's to hate about him? He's great, seems like a good guy, plays the game hard, is a good leader (yes, he sometimes gets emotional and yells at his teammates, but Brady's done the same thing). If we didn't have Brady, I'd *love* to have Peyton Manning as our quarterback.

As a Red Sox fan, I want to hate every single guy on the Yankees, but I just can't bring myself to dislike Mariano Rivera. Great, great player, total class act.

I don't like Peyton Manning, and I certainly don't like the Colts. But I do give him the grudging respect that he deserves. This is just another example. The guy's a competitor and I believe he'd much rather face the Pats at their best with Brady at the helm. That part of him, I can certainly respect. I share his opinion that I don't want to see any great players go down. Even roidboy Shawn Merriman. I'd rather the Pats face the Chargers at full strength and beat them that way so their fans won't have any excuses.
