The problem is that there's OL help and there's OL help. A team may need an average NFL starter OG to fill in or want a better than average OG but are they willing to spend $8M/year cap money on the OG position PLUS give away a draft pick or a starting player?

bingo! And that has been the problem in trading this guy all along. But now there are 4 days to make a deal and things always get compromised when the deadline nears.

But I'm not hopeful anything will get done.

Like US!!!. We cannot run at the left side unless its a delayed draw or some trick play right now.

if we get him we can run both right and left which makes the running game more effective. Now when we run its always on the right side.

So your justification for Mankins a) publicly lying about the Patriots keeping their word about offering him a fat contract, and b) publicly trashing the organization and Bob Kraft...

I think I might apply that word to different situations than you would.

Well in part. Again you call him a liar but do you have proof he was lying?

I call him emotional, driven by emotions and about what he views to be right and wrong. I dont think he seeks out attention, is self absorbed, or is willing to hold the team hostage for a pennie. I really dont believe greed is at the core of this issue... by default everything he has done has had the complete opposite effect.

People and PLAYERS come in all types.. Is it possible this guy is just the socially awkward type that cant deal with the manipulitve nature of business?

He was cleary angry and yes he overstepped the boundries calling out Kraft.. but that just speaks to an indiviual that is not driven by what's in his best interest in the long term...like a manipulative greedy business minded invidual might..that speaks to someone who views the world of right and wrong.. And he felt he was wronged!

And hey I am not standing behind this guy's actions. Ive said it before he hurt himself more then any of us can talking trash. But as a fan of the Patriots and football, I am not willing to throw him under the bus just because he wont cow down the the organization.. Even Teddy Bruschi has had nothing but praise for this guy as a team mate and a player and has all but supported his side of the issue!

The nfl is a business. The US allows free speech. Calling the owner a liar is not against the law or even against the rukes of the CBA. Mankins did not do anything to violate the rules of the CBA. He is within his rights to sit out.

We certaionly have a right to criticize a player for choosing to exercize his rights under the CBA, and to pay the consequences.

We alos have a right to question the stratagey and tactics of the front office.

My personal view is that Mankins tried to negotiate before the 2009 season and was told that the team would not negotiate in 2009 but allowed Mankins to believe that they would negotiate next year (as they did with Wilfork). All are free to believe that ther team told Mankins that there would be no negotitations for 2 years. Personally, I don't believe that. And yes, the team has a "right" to change its mind.
