Mankins 'Definitely' to Be Franchised

Interesting that this hasn't happened yet. I'm just going from memory so I could be wrong, but didn't the Pats move pretty much instantly w/the tag in the past? That would square with Belichick's approach to things in general--if you're going to do something, do it.

Wonder if there's something else going on?

What was our record without him this year? 6-1?? I think we can live without a $8+ million G. We can draft a backup and use those monies on a FA in a position of greater need such as OLB. We know how malcontents are treated around here and we could even end up with a high(3rd rd?)comp pick worst case scenario. Bye Bye Logan, too bad you couldnt take the home town discount. See you in Washington or whoever overpays for idiots.:bricks:

This is the OL we need to sign long term. Light should be a secondary concern. True the Pats won w/o Mankins in the lineup, but it sure seemed like the entire offensive line was more effective in run blocking when he returned. There was a sense of nastiness up front (minus the playoff game) that was there when Mankins when in vs when he was holding out.

Maybe they are working on a deal. Noway they won't franchise him if they aren't signing him longterm.

Are the patriots the last of the teams to annouce their frachise tags?

I don't know if they're the last to announce anything, but I don't think it's a big deal. For all we know, they could be trying to work out a long-term deal without applying the tag.

I've heard of teams preparing to tag players, but as far as I know, no one has actually applied the tag yet. The Colts have said they'll apply the tag to Manning but haven't yet. Ditto the Eagles and Vick, Steelers and Woodley, and Ravens and Ngata. The NFLPA is also arguing whether franchises have the right to apply a tag when the current deal expires a few weeks later.

Except if I'm Mankins I say, "Ok, go ahead and franchise me and I'll earn over $10 million this year". Not too bad for a freakin' guard.

As long as they do it by the deadline, nothing to be gained by doing it sooner. They waited a week last year before announcing Wilfork had been tagged.

Hmmm....that could be it, I guess. Disappointing if so, was hoping there was activity going on behind the scenes (which there could still be.)

Schefter's saying Mankins has been franchised.

"Patriots officially placed franchise tag on Pro Bowl G Logan Mankins on Monday. Franchise OL number is projected to be $10.1 million."
