Mankins could hold up NFL settlement

A high ranking NFLPA executive is the source and no NFLPA spokesperson has denied it. ESPN has been running this as the position of the NFLPA for days, if you can't see the difference between that and Cole's "unnamed source" that's your issue.

Furthermore there is absolutely no mention of this as an outstanding issue in any reporting taking place at the meetings, at least in terms of ESPN's coverage, however Spanky4050 may disagree, and he may have a Twitter source that trumps the actual coverage.

I think most people can see the difference. You can't. Coles' source may be no less valid, but by giving more of a description of the source might give away who it is. Say that Coles' source was Mankins' agent, what does he write "an unnamed agent who represents Logan Mankins" told him.

The source was identified as a high ranking NFLPA exec, and the NFLPA let that run on ESPN's scroll for the last 3 days without dispute.

And it was an unnammed person who wasn't will to go on the record. That is no more valid than Coles' source.

Again, just because the NFLPA claims after the whole situation turned into a nightmare after it was leak that they never asked that doesn't mean they did. It could be a case of minimizing the damage caused by the actions. I mean Anthony Weaver claimed his Twitter account was hacked after he was caught sending questionable pictures to women. That was "evidence" he didn't, but clearly he did.

If Cole's wrote that a representative of Logan Mankins was his source and Mankins never took issue with it i would give it much more credence.

Glad to go all scanners on you. Sorry, but I gotta have fun with guys who just cannot admit they are wrong and are pure comedy trying to explain their way out of it rather than admit they are wrong.

But I will back off since it has gone on long enough.

I can't keep up this thread anymore, but...

The hangup: players still asking for cash - CBSSports.com

Again, it's the LAWYERS doing the asking though. You'd think if the players were so offended they could force them to stop. We have seen Brees & Mannings names drop out of these requests, so I imagine they got the lawyers to do so.

Saw it on Price's twitter:
Reports: Logan Mankins & Vincent Jackson drop FA request, but are still seeking $10M each

If that's old news, forgive me.

FWIW, Mike Freeman has had a lot of good sources on the players' side throughout this whole process. So his sources are probably pretty good.

One last one and I am done. If the source wants to say anonymous (which was obviously the case), saying they represent Mankins could give it away especially if the only person who represents Mankins is his agent. Besides Coles mentions multiple sources. Mike Freeman has sources too who back up the claim. All these writers who are claiming they have sources are not just making it up to write stories.

You keep on bringing up guys like Tomase, but Tomase was the only guy who had sources who claimed the Pats taped the Rams walkthrough. Other reporters didn't back him up. In this case, many reporters are reporting the same thing from their own sources.

FWIW, from Breer:

As I just said on NFLN, Jackson & Mankins are, for now, holding to their request for $10M to settle. 1 of a number of plaintiff issues.

If this is true, Mankins looks bad, but not as bad as Jackson who denied it. Jackson looks like a flat out liar.

Thing about Mankins is, I don't think he cares how he looks.

Yup. Thing is Jackson does, but he's the pawn of an agent team that doesn't. Schwartz and Fengold have represented some contentious holdouts. They have a reputation for not giving a rats ass what the the public or fans think of them.

If you ask me he was a goner anyway.

1. He asked to join the lawsuit unlike Brady who was voted in by the NFLPA. I cannot get out of my head that Mankins did this to screw with Kraft.

When this is over, I will be very curious to see if Bob Kraft and Bradys relationship is a bit strained. I think it will go back to normal over time though. Mankins and Krafts relationship has been bad for some time and been made worse IMO.

2. 10 Million is too much for a G.

I'm getting really tired of Mankins. I hope the team does whatever is in their best interest regardless of how Mankins feels about it.

Let's recap:
Its about honor & pride, not about money -- except it really is about money.

Its about honor & pride, yet he's willing to at-best-inconvienence, at-worst-screw-over his fellow players for something that only benefits him.

He lives a simple life & doesnt need the money, yet he only cares about making sure he's the highest paid person at his position.

F him

I've never seen the word "honor" associated with "money" as much as with Frank Bauer and Logan Mankins. It's rather impressive. They've done a really great job of taking a virture, something immaterial, and putting a dollar sign on it. Good for them.

And while I think at least one of them is an epic dbag (Bauer), none of this stops me from wanting Mankins on this team long-term. When Mankins and his agent stop acting like children, I think all parties involved will realize there is a reasonable deal to be made that helps both player and team.

I hate this guy:

Sal Paolantonio on ESPN: "We keep hearing from a lot of owners here that . . . Jeffrey Kessler is holding up this deal."

Mankins better be the best O-Lineman in football next year or he can walk elsewhere. Cannon and ??? is fine by me rather than overspending on a Guard.

I see all this as the predictable chaos that maxes out and then is damped as a deal consummates.
