Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

You don't realize you're continuing to hurt your argument here. If Chung was hurt and Richards and Bademosi sucked throughout the season and continued to suck that night and they were thin in the secondary, you have to get out of the big nickel and insert Butler.
If you make a decision before kickoff that butler is melting down and unprepared to play, putting him in is not a consideration. In hindsight trying the one thing you didn’t is different than making different live adjustments that you give you a better chance.

Richards was in for Chung and Ebner, he was playing Strong Safety so you weren't pulling out your strong safety nor getting "lighter" against Philly's offensive front which already had a large size advantage.

Bademosi only played minimal (dead last) snaps at corner all season and in only 5 games, garbage time... when did he have time to "suck?"

We didn't lose because the corners were giving up poor coverage especially after Gilmore switched over to Alshon Jeffrey, Philly was throwing over us and making tough catches the same way they did all playoffs.

I would argue a large reason why Butler didn't play (beyond being a malcontent of some kind over $) was his lack of height, mass and speed against the 1-2-3 receiver combination in Philly who are all taller, stronger, faster and heavier...

We lost at the line of scrimmage, they ran the ball nearly 30 times, Foles ran it zero times, he was sacked zero times, they blocked the hell out of us and manhandled us because Malcolm Brown was our only defensive tackle worth a damn.

Danny Shelton was the 1st off season move by Belichick for a reason, Mike Lombardi says the very same thing I'm saying here on The Ringer podcast over a week ago when discussing the Shelton move.

Football is won in the trenches.

A lot of that’s very different from “if only he put in the defensive player he had trusted to play the most snaps all year who had been at points over the last two years our number one corner, which would have allowed the rest of the secondary to play on position”.
Which should be the obvious proof that there was a severe reason that you are unaware of.
Please give us a list of all the other times that belichick made a capricious 180 degree turn on a player he felt all season long was his best chance to win then one day for no reason sent him to Siberia.

41 points and 373 yards to Nick Foles.

His football related observations & evaluations were abysmal failures that week.

Did he not observe his defense hit rock bottom by the end of the 3rd Q? Might be time to suck it up and put in your 4 year veteran, 2x SB Champ, 98% snaps played #2 CB when the defense is getting shredded.
Why would you put in the guy you have determined is your worst option? People need to come to grips with the fact that to the only person who matter Malcolm butler on the day was nothing resembling Malcolm butler all season. No coach will throw in a player he feels isn’t prepared to play just because he is losing and it’s an idea.

So we have come to the conclusion that Butler himself cost us the SB?

Yes. Butler knows what he did. And most of the rumors as to what happened are true (he was sick, he was not locked in on the game plan, a coach went to check on him, he was caught innebriated, he had a confrontation with a coach who is related to Bill) it's just that no one will publicly verify them. I've been able to verify it so I'm sure plenty in the media know too.

Belichick played his "worst option" in 98% of defensive snaps last season?

Belichick played his "worst option" in 98% of defensive snaps last season?
No. In those games he was not his worst option. In the game where he wasn’t prepared to play he was.
If butler had a hamstring injury and couldn’t run would you be ripping B.B. for not playing him? It’s badically the same thing.
Or what, you think bb threw the game or something?

Is this thread last one to post wins?

In this thread we all lose.

Or what, you think bb threw the game or something?

You are talking to 40% trolls, 40% people that have no clue about football and couldn't even explain what dime or nickel means or how it is used and 20% BB haters.

Pointless discussion. I keep coming back to the timeout BB didn't take against the Seahawks in the SB and can only imagine how he would have been ripped for doing that if the outcome was different. Even though his logic to do it was sound.. it is the same again with not fielding a player who has had crap practices leading up to the most important game of the year. Hell, if the Bills hit the FG against the Giants his gameplan would not be in the HoF but he would have been a laughing stock. That is how much hindsight is applied to decisions by ignorant fans.

Anyone who thinks practice is just practice should just rewatch DYJ1 and listen to Ernie when he clearly says that in his opinion (and BB's) you win and lose games on the practice field. This **** is pretty important around here...

Nobody knows that Butler committed any act besides getting sick. This is why I can’t stand this discussion. If it’s negative about Butler you’re willing to believe a no name dope on twitter, but if it’s avout Belichick no source is good enough
Take your last sentence and switch the locations of Butler's and Belichick's names andl you with have a sentence that is also accurate with thousands of people, including many in the media.

Look, I am happy to believe and am sure there is ample evidence that he was sick and thus, not practicing well or locked into the game plan as much as the coaches would like.

However, the second part is pure speculation without proof and to just offer it as it is the truth without any evidence. It isn't helpful to the conversation.

Wild assumptions again.

Beddard broke some film down about 2/3rds into the season, showing where Butler wasn't playing his responsibilities and was instead peeking into the backfield, trying to make plays instead of just playing his responsibilities.

Except it's true. Like I said none of this is stuff that hasn't been reported some of which was refuted but I have found out that it's true all of it. Am I supposed to not talk about it because I can't say how I know?

LOL at the blind Belichick ass-kissers who believe something - or anything, really - from that ignorant clown Giardi and his convenient "unnamed sources."

That's the "leak" you're referring to?

Did Belichick somehow psychologically evaluate Butler prior to the game? How does he deem a player to be "locked in" or not?
It’s his job. He’s been doing it fir 40 years. Obviously he is capable of that.

So what do you believe? Belichick threw the game?

. This is exactly how it works.
