Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Holy smoke. Um... This is going to make that meeting over the tension all the more awkward now. I'm shocked Tom went on and co-signed Malcolm's version of the events over the head of his coach. He must be absolutely livid with Bill to do that.

the head coach corroborated this after the game. seems like they are all on the same page. Bill benched Butler because he felt slighted that Butler wanted to play for the saints.

Well, prepare for that to happen. Doubling down (while lying) doesn't do anyone any good, including Goodell or Malcom Butler.
Its just so sad how this is going down.

We know from various beat guys independently that some of what he wrote on this page is basically a lie. So why should I take anything else he said seriously ?

Because Tom just confirmed it.

I’m telling you this is going to be a big lockerroom issue going forward.

Well i think brady would do anything to win a game no matter the circumstances.

Very nice by Butler ...

Still does not explain his performance in the Titans and Jaguars games which was horrible.

Titans he was horrible, thought he did a better job against Jaguars, at least according to the post-game breakdown.

How about going with BB who said it wasn't a disciplinary decision

You can both say BB made the right call, while also denying BILLS OWN WORDS.

What bill says jives with what butler said.

In this giant ****pile of a thread I guess it is easy to miss posts but I think in the end it was not a discipline issue alone but the missed curfew was the icing on top of the cake.

I think what Giardi and Thornton wrote about him being difficult to coach at times, lashing out at coaches during the BYE week and generally not showing up in those practices was what triggered BB to actively think about benching him and then there was "one more thing" and he snapped.

Again I have said that I would have played Butler at some point in the third quarter myself so I am not exactly agreeing with what BB did. But at the same time you dont **** around with BB even if it is in your final week with the team. Especially not right before a SB.

I'm of the opinion that BB is the GOAT coach. It also doesn't mean he is perfect, far from it.

Just like Gregg Popovich tried justifying Tim Duncan's benching at the end of game 6 of the 2013 Finals and I understand why, but even in real time before the Benedict Allen shot I disagreed with his reasoning and was proven right. It doesn't mean Pop isn't one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time.

If even for tactical reasons, unless BB felt Butler couldn't possibly produce better than any of Rowe/Bademosi/Richards, it is ridiculous to say his decision to bench Butler for the ENTIRE game isn't at the very least questionable. It hurt the team tactically, and potentially the morale to a certain degree even if very little.

One big factor we have to at least wonder:

What will Kraft’s response be to this situation?

This decision to bench Butler is making me angrier as each day passes. Ugh.

Please direct anger towards poorly performing and acting, Malcolm Butler. Also, he may have some serious emotional/psychological damage from this.

The crying thing was pretty alarming.

@Ross12 to reply to your final response before locking the other thread:

Damn straight.

Ross is just covering for ivan who has been defending his stance slightly worse then the patriots secondary without butler on the field during the superbowl, which is to say very very badly.

From Ross12 "Since this thread is basically just discussing Butler then I’m locking it - we already have a Butler thread."

The other thread is about Bill Belichick, not Malcolm Butler, and should not have been locked.

Brady had a high ankle sprain the week before the first loss and had a separated shoulder in the 2nd half when leading the other lost SB. '

Are you serious? Clueless? we'd love to know.

Your BB ball washing funny.

Umm, no he didn't. You can't move on high ankle sprains and they are a 4-6 week heal time.

Brady moved just fine.

It was a very neutral and humble post, so I don't see how Brady and nearly the entire team 'liking' the post is any type of big deal; although you just know that all of them were pissed (& still are) about his benching.

I keep checking this thread for revelations that would exculpate BB in this.

Unfortunately, we seem to be trending in the opposite direction. Not good.
