The bolded part just isn’t realistic at this stage of his career. Only one guy had that ability, and we know who it is. The problem is you only need to look around the league to realize that young guys like Mac need guys who can make plays in key situations.mac does nothing to make anyone around him better. until he proves otherwise, the only thing we can count on are slow starts and failed fourth quarter comebacks with him under center.
I know we’ve had discussions about Meyers, but the amount they leaned on him on third down was significant - he led the team in that category by a massive margin the last couple of years. I didn’t realize how much until I looked closer at it.
They need someone to be the guy who can make a play in a “gotta have it” moment. They just don’t have that person the way some of these other guys do. But you’re talking about Mac like he’s a 10yr journeyman and people are trying to prop him up. He’s a third year guy who has made progress and obviously, he’ll need to finally have some big moments at some point. But he’s not exactly a lost cause.
I just worry that they don’t have a guy who he can turn to in order to make those plays. Mike Reiss went so far earlier this week as to say, “I think they’re in trouble,” for that reason, among others. I’m worried he may indeed be right.
