Good articles are gospel. Critical articles are stupid!

It is only "tight windows" when your suckass pass catches gain zero separation.

The way some in this thread are talking, man coverage is the unbeatable defense, far superior to zone in every conceivable way.... and yet, according to an article I found on PFF, only 1 team in the NFL uses man coverage more often than zone.
The pass cant take forever to get there either.

Most NFL DBs are too good and close distance in seconds. We all see who the fast ball pitchers are in the NFL.

I think to some extent almost all rookies are going to struggle against man coverage. Even coming from a major program in a major conference like Mac there is still going to be an uptick in the speed of the game. Another year under his belt and hopefully some speed injected into the offense frees things up.

Meyers is really a threat on the outsides let's judge Mac will real talent on the outsides.

The rating vs man wasn't that much worse and obviously says as much if not more about our WR at the time than i think it says about Mac.
Exactly! I think we were at the bottom of the league regarding WR's last year. Agholor struggled and Meyers was playing out of position. Bourne was by far our best WR I expect bigger things and more chemistry with Mac this year. I think Parker - Bourne and Agholor pushed Meyers down where he belongs as a #4 WR.

Most teams that have an issue with speed at the X and Y positions, as this team did last year, have problems against man. That’s a reason why it’s so important that Thornton comes on early. If he does, that’s a lot of speed on the perimeter between him and Agholor. It’ll shake the opposing D out of Cover-1 and into Cover-2, where the seam should be available to feast upon for Henry, Bourne, and Jonnu (assuming he removes his head from his ass this season). Parker is a nice addition, but his history says he’s likely to get injured at some point.

Agree with this completely. Any team that has receivers who are unable to separate will struggle against man coverage. This year will be a much better test of that.

Wouldn't a man coverage problem be more indicative of deficiencies in skill position talent?

I'd view a zone coverage problem to be more of a QB issue.

I could see it being a little of both. Like if the QB lacks the confidence to throw to a receiver that isn't wide open (there's a difference between "open" in college and "open" in the pros, for example), or if he lacks the vision to recognize which of the man matchups his guy is more likely to win off the line. But I don't think Mac suffers from either a lack of vision or confidence. Both could be improved in year 2 of course, but you'd probably count those among his strengths as a QB.

But I agree in that, if the deficiencies were placed on a set of scales, they would be tipped towards the skill positions.

Personnel dependant. I'm sure teams would live to have 2 solid man corners, but the salary cap kind of torpedoes that - given the premium top flight man corners demand.

Haven't watched the video or read this thread - so don't know the battle lines but I've been saying the Pats have had trouble against man for a while now - it even goes back to Brady about 3-4 years now.
