Gilbert was elevated from the practice squad, so it appears Zappe is likely starting and Mac is the emergency QB. At least one more week of Zappe madness. #LFG

Thats how I interpreted the gilbert elevation. Kind of expected that, but hopefully the questionable tag actually means mac is getting closer

It could mean that, but it could also mean that they are just still not 100% sure if Mac will play this weekend or not. The deadline for PS elevations was today at 4 PM so they had to make that call-up today, so better to play it safe and do it regardless. Still a chance Mac plays and they don’t need Gilbert at all, but if Mac doesn’t play then it’ll be pretty important to have Gilbert there.

It could also just be a layer of insurance for them where if Mac does play but his ankle is still a little shaky, he gets dinged early and they want to pull him out, they aren’t down to 1 QB.

Having said all that… yeah, the most likely reading is that it’s another week of The Zappening. Although Mac wasn’t downgraded to out, and did make the trip, so we will see.

Just a reminder: the "emergency QB" rule that existed was when Edelman was a rookie doesn't exist anymore. If he's not among the 48 active players tomorrow, he's not playing, period.

With the elevation, I'd be surprised if Mac is active. As @Ross12 said, I know they had the deadline (and I forgot about that rule @ctpatsfan77) , but I just feel like Belichick likely knew before they left whether or not Mac could play tomorrow. I also think he's confident they can probably beat the Browns with Zappe under center and it makes sense to keep Jones out of harm's way for at least one more week heading into next Monday night's game against the Bears.

Again, that's another positive in Zappe's emergence. If he hadn't been as good as he's been, maybe they rush Mac back before he's ready. And if Zappe goes out and lights it up tomorrow, even better.

LOL, I'm not rooting for controversy. But obviously, Zappe playing well is helpful since it allows Mac another week to get better and keeps them in the win column. If Zappe hadn't gone out and instead looked like a rookie, maybe they risk putting Mac out before he's ready and he re-aggravates the ankle, and it affects his play for the rest of the season.

Again, I started off rolling my eyes as this whole fiasco unfolded because I knew how the fan reactions would be. But at the end of the day, both need to do well, and obviously, someone is going to have to go eventually, and someone will end up staying. If all goes well, it's Mac who's the guy but if it's not, at least they have a second option compared to being in the situation of maybe only having Hoyer and potentially having to find, draft, and start developing someone else.

It is what it is. I mean, they dealt Cassel and Garoppolo, so it's not a new scenario. Aside from it being the first time this situation has really come up post-GOAT. I'm just trying to limit how emotionally tied I'm letting myself get to either guy. We just need the team to win, so as long as they have a guy who can do it (again, hopefully, it's Mac for the sake of the time/energy already invested), I think most of us are good with that.

Going to assume Reiss knows what he's talking about. But playing with just 2 QBs when one might play on a bad ankle would be a good reason for a 3rd QB so I'm still holding out a little hope. I mean look how quick we were down to one RB when we decided to dress only 2 last week.

LOL, and I'm not media. Literally, no one outside of this board really cares what I think, I can promise you that. And my opinion has zero bearing on anything, so "it is what it is".

I agree a hundred percent. I clearly am a big Mac guy (and not because of my physic, and for a fat guy I am definitely not a McDonalds Big Mac fan). But I'm leaving my options open because of what Zappe has done thus far. But keeping my excitement level as low as I can for Zappe, because as I said before I've seen so many dudes light it up (not saying Zappe lit it up) for 3-4 games only to come crashing back down to earth immediately after that. And **** I think the first time I saw it was with Eric Mitchell (or Scott always get the QB and Pitchers first names mixed up) then a slew of them after that.

I think for me and probably most, its the poise, ball security, the reports of past and current coaches being elated about his recall (trying to remember a guy who used to play QB for us that had insane recall, but having a hard time remembering his name ) bundle all that together and its impressive.

With that said may the better man win. Take us back to glory...soon...please!

Back in the late 90s, I was part of Rivals.com for 2-ish years, and that was about as close as I came to writing for an outlet. When they shut down and were purchased and went back to doing just college sports, I decided to start this place and move us all over to here because I didn't want to ever have the rug pulled out from underneath me again, which would have meant potentially losing our community and our little corner of the internet.

Obviously, I have a blog that a few of us write for, and I've always done that (because I like doing it). But our audience outside of here is limited due to the fact I'm not tied to any media companies.

In terms of all of the behind-the-scenes stuff site-wise (the technical stuff), that's 100% me. So unlike all the other fan outlets (which are tied to Vox Media, Turner Sports and Sports Illustrated (Authentic Brands Group)) I don't have any support, and the site gets zero distribution.

Kind of been a crazy ride but people like me who have a site and forum like this sort of don't exist anymore, or at least you're not seeing new people really doing it. There are only really a few of us left, which is kind of crazy considering how things were back in the late 90s. So, it's kind of turned it into an "us against the world" sort of thing, which knowing what I know now, I'm good with.

Well sir we all appreciate the effort. By the way I am an IT consultant mostly focused in Exchange, 365 & Azure. But if you ever need some tech help (not website related) always here to help.

I will say that experience gave me locker room access during that span which was really cool, and I learned a ton and met some amazing people.

It's funny, my days off at work were Weds + Thurs so I used to drive 3hrs to Bryant College during camp on those days and then 1.5hrs to Foxboro during the season. That whole period is sort of a blur...it went by crazy fast.

One cool side note was the fact I also ended up doing Adam Vinatieri's official website while he was here and even Brady's before he became "Brady" because the two initially shared the same marketing agent. There are plenty of other stories too, but it was definitely a cool experience overall.

Getting back to the topic at hand...

From Rapoport moments ago:

So there you go. Hopefully, the kid can get it done and even their record and get them back to .500

Probably coming down to a gametime decision.

It is my hope that Mac doesn't play- we don't really need him. Browns run D is easily pushed around.
