Lombardi's take on the Moss trade

Just an FYI bump for those interested in hearing the BB interview with Mike Lombardi in it's entirety. NFLN Gameday says it will air just before 10AM.

I don't usually watch Gameday and I don't usually pay that much attention to anything Mooch says but he just did a film segment where he broke down why Gonzo can't be stopped in SD, a team missing it's #1WR and stretch the field guy. Has to do with his skill set and the fact that he can play like a WR and cause matchup fits running any route on the tree. Interesting...
Which must be why Moochieoochie sided with the histrionics of Michael Irvin to declare NE a lost cause with Moss in Minnesota. To hear Sapp and Faulk actually making sense was utterly disconcerting.

This morning NFLN ran the interview with Lombardi and BB, then Eisen 'interviewed' Lombardi.

The most interesting part to me was Lombardi's interview w/Eisen. Eisen says, BB said it was a combination of things then asked Lombardi what were the combination of things? Lombardi TOLD us BB's reasons which I believe he was given by BB 'off the record' so they couldn't be attributed to BB. This is how BB leaked the info to someone he TRUSTS to not break a confidence.

Boiled down to Moss doesn't fit the offense due to the emphasis on the 2 TE set and the emergence of BJGE and the running game. Moss runs a limited set of routes and this was limiting the offense. Since Moss doesn't run the entire route tree it was limiting the route combinations the team wants to run and the progressions available to Brady.

PFiVa thanks for the tip on this interview!

IOW the offense will be better without MOss due to the development of the younger players.

Remember this interview was taped and NFLN had time to 'set up' the interview and the spot with Eisen 'interviewing' Lombardi about what BB meant.

This is my fear too.

Moss opened up not only the shorter routes for Welker & others, but also the running lanes because he distracted a Safety long enough for the RB to find a hole.

The offense is going to find the playing field a lot more crowded in the upcoming weeks.

On the bright side, Defenses never needed to double team Reche Caldwell...

They likely will keep 2 defenders tasked to cover Welker - at least one playing a zone... that might prevent some pressure on the QB, though it will be more crowded than with a legit deep threat

still, let's see how the game plan develops with Tate and Hernandez before we make any judgements - DC's are still going to be facing a multipronged attack and that will keep them somewhat honest
