Seriously guys, I love soccer but this is not the place for discussing it. Ask ian for a forum or go to another site. I defended the World Cup thread to the death and was grateful to ian for allowing it but this kind of intrusion into a thread about a major trade is a really bad idea and will only lead to antagonism from the haters.

Was just checking Wright's combine, and he weighed in at 220. That doesn't seem right: in the few Bucs games I watched last year, he seemed heavier than that. Can anyone who follows the Bucs more closely than I do confirm that he's significantly heavier?

Because otherwise, he's much closer to Brandon LaFell than Aaron Hernandez.

I saw almost all Bucs games last year and he has a similar build to Hernandez. Not quite as stocky and a little bit longer (3 inches taller) but he isn't anywhere near the prototype build for a TE. I think he may have been around 230 by the end of the year but that could be the max for his frame.

It's nothing but a big name signing to appease the Green & Gold brigade. Looking at the formation United have used so far this season, he's not a fit, either at wing-back or in central midfield (far too lightweight). He's a winger. Nothing more, nothing less.

United desperately, and I mean desperately, need a centre back and at least one proper central midfielder.

People are definitely overlooking the addition of Tim Wright here. This wasn't a salary move at all. Well, that may have played a role but if Mankins was still good then I am positive they would not have made this move. They did it because they don't think Logan Mankins is that good anymore, and because they had a chance to get a very good young TE, which just happened to be their most pressing need.

I called out Mankins after the season for poor play and many people laughed at me. Looks like I got the last laugh now.

Right on, thanks for the insight. Seems like a tweener, from the sounds of it. My opinion is that, no matter what you call the guy, if he can't block a LB when you run behind him, he's basically just a big WR. Wright probably falls into that group.

Brady shouldn't be weaponless ever again for the remainder of his career. All we really need to do is extend Vereen and the offense is pretty deep for the next 3-4 years.

I don't disagree with that and i would love to see a soccer forum here that people actually would use but I do think bringing it into this thread invites the haters to trash it. I love the game and respect the knowledge you guys bring and have made that clear i just don't think this is the place for it.

Count me in the thumbs up camp. Why is trading away your best OL guard a good idea? Because 2 TE offense is a staple of this offense as it gives so many options that are hard to defend. Cause the disparity in play between Mankins and the new starting guard is not as big as the disparity in play between Wright and no one as Pats dont really have a move TE and dont tell me Hooey is a decent move TE. Cause Pats drafted 3 OL this year and have had all offseason and TC to evaluate them. Cause coaches have had all TC and 3 exhibition games to evaluate new rookies plus year 2 OLinemen. Cause frees up cap money to spend on more premium positions like (soon expiring contracts) for RB, CB's (for re-upping Revis or his replacement), $ for McCourtey, cause 4th round pick will likely be in top 20 as I dont see how TB makes playoff in loaded NFC and in same division as 'Nawlins and Falcons (should be good again). Cause Pats have good intel on Wright from Schiano / Revis. Cause Wright should fit right in and have ready made friends with former Rutgers players, and 13 million other good reasons.....

Yes, Mankins is (still) a very good player, but 13 million over 2 years is alot of money that can be better spend elsewhere. The offense will adjust its playcalling to compensate. The opposing teams defense will have (again) a hell of a time defending 2 pass catching TE's. Plus valuable insurance if Gronk is slow getting up to speed - was less than a year ago his knee was mangled so shouldn't overload his workload too early in the season. Pats have just re-opened up a big portion of their playbook again with a credible pass catching move TE.

We do have veterans at C and RG that were good enough to get to three consecutive AFCCGs and a SuperBowl, plus some new people too.

And bad enough to be the main reason why we lost those games, as well as almost every other game we've lost for two years running.

By that logic, we were totally fine at WR and CB last year too, and everything that was done to upgrade after replacing Talib with Revis was unnecessary.

It's possible to make the AFCCG with genuinely bad units on your team. Hell, we made the SB in 2011 with one of the worst secondaries I've ever seen.

I like him but he is definitely not much of a blocker.

I mean, I get it. This is coach selling high and getting a good return before anyone realizes the guy has peaked and is just a wee bit long in the tooth.

He apparently sucks so bad that Tampa gave up a pick and a player and will pay him almost 10 million. Whether or not this is a good move has yet to be determined but your take that Mankins isn't very good is pretty much universally rejected by people who know football.

The reason being, that in a rare leak of a Patriots draft board, we know that the Pats graded Williams pretty highly:

If you zoom in on the image you'll see that the Pats had him graded as a 7.0 whilst those being drafted around him, including Harmon had 5.5s.
