Great article about Mankins contract situation and type of player he is! No wonder this was a tough decision for BB.

When New England approached Mankins about taking a pay cut from his $6.25 million salary, he knew it could signal his demise with the Patriots. In his first extensive comments since his departure, Mankins revealed he was willing to rework his salary.

"I was open to the idea," he said. "It was a just a matter of how much. We couldn't agree on that.

"What they offered wasn't good for me and what I wanted wasn't good for them.

"And you know when you don't (rework the deal), something can happen."

One of the biggest adjustments that Mankins had to make was to find a way to handle the humidity in Florida.

"When you come down here in September, it's blistering hot," Dietrich-Smith said. "I mean it is hot. The first few days Logan was looking at me going, 'How do you play in this?"'

Mankins' solution was to spent his first week in practice running gassers by himself up and down the line for added conditioning.

"Pretty soon, there's one guy running with him," general manager Jason Licht said. "Then there's two. He's not asking them to do it. He's not a rah-rah guy. It's not something he demands. It's his presence. It's exactly why we got him."

He negotiated a contract that was way too high on the backside, for multiple years. Unless he wanted to take a serious cut (no way) he would have been let go if not traded.

Considering this was a bad situation for the Pats, who stood to be stuck with a lot of this, it was a tremendous trade, and they didn't even have to lie to him.

A link about...?

A link about something I was not aware about. Logan Mankins did try to rework his contract. I thought he just said no and they traded them. It was more, I'm willing to rework it but not by as much as you want it. I didn't know this. You can call it hindsight. I call it informative.

In case you didn't read the article, skip past the contract part if you find that annoying and read the part about Mankins work ethic, and what he said about Conolly and Wendell. It's a nice article.

I mean I'm not trying to bash the article or anything, I'm sure it is. I've just heard far more than enough talk about what went down in the Mankins situation than I've needed to. And many of these threads that start as an article tend to turn into these type of discussions I am talking about.

Fair enough. That's not my intention. I've never had any problems with the trade myself.

It's not even problems with the trade for me I am okay with the trade, it's just the constant bickering back and forth from many on this board about whether it's helped us or not.

Great article. Thanks for sharing.

The fact that the article depicts a different take on the , 'take it or leave it' stance that either Mankins or the Pats took really doesn't change my perspective on the situation. Both sides couldn't figure it out. It is what it is..

In the end, the Pats traded Mankins for Wright, 4th rounder and according to Miguel with the cap space were able to accommodate Wright, Branch, Casillas and Ayers and valuable cap space in 2015.

Is the line better? Maybe not. is the team better today and beyond? Yes.

Good article. Glad to see he is still rooting for the Pats. He was a great player (not elite), with an elite heart for the game. Wishing him nothing but the best for many years to come.

Let us know when it finally sinks in that you ~ and you alone ~ are the only one bringing that up, sport.

Fair enough, but you cannot blame me for growing tired of seeing thread titles with the term "Mankins trade" inside of them seemingly every week months later. Surely you can relate, OTG?

Needless, to say: Great Article. Thanks for sharing this with us, Brother Wheel.

Logan Mankins will always be a Patriot.

Of course, Brother Joe. That's fair. It's just that my Libertarian blood boils a bit when I see someone attacked not for their views but for the very act of voicing their views ~ especially when all they're doing is sharing one of the few articles out there that are actually worth reading, and one that in fact is about one of our own.

Had you viciously attacked the article itself, I wouldn't've said a peep, you see, save to dispute the attack.

Do I sympathize with your optical fatigue at seeing yet another Thread with Mankins's name in it? Of course. Many subjects are done to dirt in any Fan Forum, I'm sure. But I would beg you to simply pass it over and say nothing, because I believe that attacking the act of broaching a Subject poisons the atmosphere.

Well, my intentions were not to attack the poster or the article by any means. My initial post just happened to be a kneejerk reaction from seeing yet another title with Mankins mentioned. No harm towards anybody was intended.

Kinda useless without any figure. He might not have wanted to take much less.

Can't you two just PM each other?

His shocked teammates tempered their frustration per company policy, although quarterback Tom Brady found a unique way to express his solidarity by growing a bushy Mankins beard for the Week 1 game against Miami.

Really?
