Last season certainly didn’t turn out quite the way many people had hoped and if he had it all to do over again, it sounds like former Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett would have also done things differently.

Dorsett, who signed with the Seahawks during this offseason, apparently also had the option to become a Seahawk last offseason after turning down a deal in favor of signing on for one more year in New England.

The veteran wideout finished last season with 29 receptions for 397-yards and 5 touchdowns during the regular season in 2019.  His reception total was just three fewer than his best season the year before in 2018 when he finished with 32.  However, the problem last year was the fact he was targeted 54 times, which saw Tom Brady complete just 54% of his throws when looking his way.  Brady was 32-of-42 the previous year for 290-yards and three touchdowns, a completion percentage of 76%.

Without Rob Gronkowski and no one else to command attention other than Julian Edelman, Dorsett found himself against tougher match-ups and struggled to get free, leading to a lot of frustration for both he and Brady.

The two also couldn’t get anything going in the postseason, with Brady hitting Dorsett on just 1-of-4 throws for 6-yards during their Wild Card loss to the Titans.

Overall, it ended up being a frustrating year for both Brady and Dorsett, with Brady moving on to the Buccaneers this offseason while Dorsett got another shot and jumped at the opportunity to finally join the Seahawks.  According to the veteran wideout, he’s clearly second-guessing his decision to not join Russell Wilson prior to last season and it’s a “mistake” he didn’t want to repeat.

“I could have come (to Seattle) last year, but I chose to stay in New England,” he told the Seattle News Tribune. “I didn’t want to make that mistake again.”

Dorsett spent three seasons in New England and originally joined the team after having been acquired by the Patriots back on September, 2 2017 from the Colts, in a trade that sent former quarterback Jacoby Brissett to Indianapolis.
