That he has failed as both a HC and OC in his time away from the Pats. That his offense was dead last in the league in points scored last year.

Right. I'm sure the utter dearth of talent outside of Steven Jackson and 11 games of Brandon Lloyd had nothing to do with that.

You've addressed his failures as an OC last year, to which I would not demur.
I'm curious if you would defend his tenure as head coach/GM of the Broncos.
Frankly, I would say he rather mishandled that, and above all, I have concerns about his history of talent evaluation and how that'll relate to our future drafts.

I think his talent evaluation "issues" are a bit overblown. He had his misses, like everyone, but also drafted some quality players.

His tenure as HC wasn't great, but he also had to deal with some significant turnover (Cutler/Marshall, specifically) when he stepped in there. It's quite possible he wasn't ready to assume that mantle, but I don't think it forecloses the possibility of him being a quality HC down the road.

You ask me for facts then you give me excuses.

I don't give a damn what the reasons are, his offense scored less points than any other offense last year. What skill is there in that? Shouldn't a coach worthy of being named the successor years in advance to the great Bill Belichick be able to get his offense to, I don't know, maybe 2nd to last in the league in points scored? This after being fired mid season by the Broncos after losing the players and gutting the team of any talent.

Yeah let's lock that guy down years in advance to replace possibly the greatest HC of all time - ******* genius.

So you're not interested in context. Good to know.

I mean seriously the great BB was able to get his D to 31 before the season ended if Josh was turly a great OC he would have been able to do the same for his offense.

OK so there is no real point to my sarcasm but I found it funny that you mentioned if he were great he should have at least been second to last instead of last which coincidentally the great BB did just that with his D.

The Pats D was 15th in points allowed. The Rams were 32nd in points scored.

This is certainly a possibility too but I just dont where Josh has made enough in his career to be dropping 2 mil on home everytime he relocates. Sure his salary is more than enough for his payments but he could be a HC somewhere else in a year or two and need to relocate again and he was in STL last year and Denver the year before that. It would seem foolish to invest so much unless he thinks he will be here for a while whether as an OC, the top canidate for the next HC, or at least the place he wants to raise his family post coaching.

Of course this is all speculation but call me crazy I dont think it is a huge leap to think buying a 2.2 Mil home is a sign he will be here for awhile. And that is the simple point it could be as OC for BBs last five or 10 as HC or could be as short term OC with potential to be HC.

25% down would be around half a mil. A guy who's been earning high six or low seven figures for a few years should be able to come up with that if he's been living smart. And, good relo packages frequently contain provisions for getting liquidity out of an unsold former home through a bridge loan or other vehicle.

And, he's only 36 and has a family.

Why wouldn't he want to live in a nice place that he owns without burning money on rent, even if he is going to be moving in a couple of years? Unless he implodes, a next employer would also be willing to bridge him or keep him whole on closing costs if his property hasn't appreciated enough to cover them.

So, I think this whole thread is way much ado over nothing. Guys who make Josh's kind of money and who are going to relocate in another couple of years buy these kind of houses every day of the week.

I think some folks are having trouble getting their heads around just how nice it is to be part of "the one percent."

I've defended his head coaching stint. I'd do it again, if I thought it would be of any use. Since it wouldn't be, and it's about his non-Patriots time, it's really just a waste of time.

Those are the only two options?

You want to make excuses as to why his team scored less than everybody else, be my guest. I don't know how you can spin being last in the league in points scored to being anything else than what it is.

The fact remains that McDaniels did nothing in his time away from the Patriots to warrant being named BB's eventual successor.

look up BB's head coaching record in both Cleveland and his first year in NE.

Uh, how is it making an excuse to point out that one year on a team with one of the worst quarterbacks in the league and one decent wideout shouldn't be dispositive as to the question of McDaniels' aptitude as an offensive coordinator? Frankly, it's an asinine argument to make, especially considering his track record in New England.

I don't need to, I know what it is and this is an incredibly weak argument.

So because BB's first head coaching job was considered a failure let's use that as a foundation for success.

BB was considered the architect of the Giants SB winning teams, went to the SB as the assistant HC and DB coach of the 96 Pats and was the DC for the Jets from 97-99 helping them go from 1 win in 96 to 12 in 98.

McDaniels failed as a HC and followed that up by finishing last in the league in points with the Rams. Not exactly equivalent resumes.

I said his team last in the league in points scored in his one year as an OC outside of NE. That is a fact, it is not up for debate as much as you would like it to be.

You seem unable to apprehend the rather obvious mitigating factors that would tend to undermine the basis for your argument, so I'll let you mindlessly bang the anti-JM drums to your heart's content.

You'd think that having watched this team last year you'd understand there are limits how much blood even the best coaches can squeeze from a stone, but apparently not.

Your insipid whining about the personnel doesn't change the fact that his team was last in points.

I've only said McDaniels has done nothing in his time away from the Patriots to warrant being appointed BB eventual successor. Being last in the league in points doesn't change that.

And since you want to compare the two, I'll assume you're talking about the Pats D. Matt Patricia, the defensive playcaller was able to get the Pats D to the middle of the pack in points allowed, A 13-3 record and an AFC championship with talent every bit as bad as the Rams offense, which McDaniels was able to lead them to a 2-14 record and last in points scored.

See if JMD was actually able to do something with his supposed lack of talent (like the Patriots did), that might mean something, that would help him. He wasn't able to, so the very best you can say about him is his team finished last in points scored with questionable personnel. I fail to see how that is supposed to help his cause.

I wasn't aware adding context to your superficial argument constitutes whining.

I don't really know how to respond to this. Was the massive, gaping flaw in this argument not self-evident when you were composing this nonsense?

The Patriots were able to do something because BB is the best coach in the league and Brady is a top-3 QB. That's really all there is to it.

I haven't a clue whether McDaniels will or should be the future head coach of the Patriots. At the same time, I hardly think speculation on his future assignments justifies the unfair attacks on his record.
