Re: Maroney running poorly and missing tacklers
Funny how people on this board state that NE's gameplan did not include alot of runs. They came out and attempted to run. Here is the breakdown for the second drive.
1st and 10 at NE 48 (5:39) L.Maroney left guard to 50 for 2 yards (C.Haggans, C.Hampton).
2nd and 8 at 50 (4:59) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to K.Faulk to PIT 44 for 6 yards (J.Harrison).
3rd and 2 at PIT 44 (4:18) (No Huddle, Shotgun) T.Brady pass short right to R.Moss to PIT 28 for 16 yards (I.Taylor).
1st and 10 at PIT 28 (3:42) (No Huddle) L.Maroney up the middle to PIT 18 for 10 yards (C.Haggans, An.Smith). (with the whole team pushing the pile)
1st and 10 at PIT 18 (3:02) T.Brady pass incomplete short left to R.Moss.
2nd and 10 at PIT 18 (3:00) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to J.Gaffney to PIT 9 for 9 yards (D.Townsend, B.McFadden).
3rd and 1 at PIT 9 (2:32) NE 68-O'Callaghan eligible. L.Maroney left guard to PIT 7 for 2 yards (D.Townsend).
1st and 7 at PIT 7 (1:51) L.Maroney up the middle to PIT 4 for 3 yards (Aa.Smith, An.Smith).
2nd and 4 at PIT 4 (1:08) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to R.Moss for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN. NE 12-Brady 42nd TD pass of season, 4th best 3 6
in NFL history. NE 81-Moss 18th TD reception, new career high. 2nd most in NFL S.Gostkowski extra point is GOOD, Center-L.Paxton, Holder-C.Hanson. 3 7
The problem was that after this drive, the two next drives stalled due in part to Maroney running twice for a grand total of 0 yards. What do you expect the team to do? Continue to give the ball to Maroney to put us in a second or third and long situation?
Face it, he doesnt hit the holes hard enough, he lacks the vision to make adjustments in his runs, and he is indecisive in the backfield. What will it take for those who support Maroney to see that? As for is YPC, How many DBs to teams have out on the field to defend against the pass? You can put Wilfork in the backfield and have the same results.
