Let Drake be Drake....

I'm wondering if Josh McDaniels is the problem; I did not like his short stint with the Raiders: thought that was kinda telling. Maye is not Tom Brady: and McDaniels time with Mac Jones was all smoke and mirrors. I wanted a different Offensive system than the old modified Patriots one. IF Maye $h!ts the Bed this year: Josh McDaniels will be the First to go. Then that will lead to Maye learning a new Offense: three different Offenses is Three years not good.
Yea I wasn't psyched about McD coming back- bad move by Kraft to not let Vrabel have that imo.

I don't know how you stop a Team with a running QB on Third and less than 3. Thats should not be possible; call Drakes number and screw Rham.
Because RT moses.. is thinking about the patiots cheerleader on sideline instead of blocking for drake...

No. He does need to learn to play from the pocket and make reads. The best QB's still do that. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar all can run but also are very strong at pocket play and use running and athleticism to add a dimension.

Drake obviously isn't confidant from the pocket and many of his runs are way too early bailouts on plays because he's worried. That's not winnable longterm (it's not winnable now)
yep, his instincts seem to be to take off as first sign of trouble. He was clearly trying to not to do that last week, which made him look indecisive. As everyone's saying, needs more reps to get comfortable and not have to over-think.

Boutte is #1 wr.. Diggs, pop and Henry is plenty to move the ball and score twin...
Need H Henry to control the middle of the Field. He's not my favorite TE given he cant block a fly: but we need his pass catching. We'll see how quickly they adjust I expect S Diggs to get better every week. Nice to see K Boutte taking advantage I think he has a Diggs ceiling: I said that before and many here thought I was blowing smoke.

Did you see how d'andre swift ran. That's a power vack. Rham was just getting rammed back by the defense .

I feel we might need to get a more bulky running back who can wear out defenses and I am sure Wilson and Campbell can create lines on left side.

Is there any RB on PS with sub 4.4 speed weight 210 Lbs height less than 6 feet that we can poach form other teams.

When Lamar - Allen and Mahomes do that: they find people downfield for Big gains sometimes. Need a guy like Kyle Williams with his Elite speed to help Maye out like that.

Dime a dozen on any PS.

With more thought (after wanting to blame JMD for same old crap)... Maye may need an entire year to have this be his real professional development in the NFL. It won't be as quickly productive, and he'll likely struggle with timing and accuracy...
BUT - it might actually be the best chance for him to become a successful long-term NFL QB.
If they went for the quick result, and simplified and let him play like Caleb Williams, we might see some excitement, but it wouldn't last. He does need to learn to diagnose D (pre-snap), call protections, call audibles, and throw on time.
I'm willing to give it 2 months to see how things develop. Does Vrabel & JMD believe enough in their plan to be patient?

Then we just need to add running backs to our PS and do game day elevations. Rham and mack hollins are practically useless and so is pop for now. That's 3 out of 11 starters and Moses and maye also had bad days. So technically 5 underperformers on offense at minimum. But maye and Moses are irreplaceable, as for others we can try others who show form and potential.

Rham is done I guess.

Feels like Rham is getting the Law Firm treatment around these parts.

Talked up as being a lot better than they really are. At least Law Firm didn't fumble much.

I admittedly have this same thought.

McDaniels has seemingly brought a stink wherever he has gone recently. I feel like it’s a little disappointing we went right back to the BB tree on offense.

We need a completely clean break, and he’s the last old piece of that era still here. Tired of trying to “force” systems onto players.

He needs playing time for the analysis to be complete. I fully believe we have good coaching that can get him there. I think the offensive system is good. Overall the line, receivers, and RBs are OK - not great. Curran made the point he had 30 college starts. 13 pro starts. 4 OCs in 4 years with meh to ****ty teams. Thats a bit of a disadvantage compared to McCarthy and Daniels.

With that said he has accuracy issues and tries to do too much. Could be that he is uncomfortable. Could be his mechanics need more work. Could be he can't process things quickly and the game is still "fast" for him so hes rushing. Could be his a Fitzmagic 2.0 and that would be bad.

I listened to Bedard's two post-game podcasts yesterday and he makes similar points. A lot of what Drake put on tape was bad, no denying that. Bad reads, bad mechanics, bad throws. Yet he also said is what Drake needs is more reps. Lots of them. That gives the staff more tape to grind, more opportunities to illustrate to him what he is doing wrong, more opportunities for him to use that teaching the next time he's in the same situation. To me this could easily be a 1-2 year process.

Another point Bedard made was that Drake was not "maniacal" the way other QBs of the past are. He thought if he had a bad play Drake's attitude was to not get pissed off but to say to himself that's just one play, do better next time. I have a long running debate about this topic with others. Are today's young athletes as driven as the ones of previous generations? Is it fair to expect Drake to be a maniac like Brady was or is OK if they have different approaches? The same is true in F1 auto racing. The current championship leaders, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, are chill dudes compared to cut-throat legends of the recent past such as Lewis Hamilton or even more recently Max Verstappen. Can their approach be changed? Should it? I don't know.

Still weird that Drake played so little in the preseason and not at all in the Giants game. He needs work and a lot of it.

I'm also starting to wonder if bringing Josh back was a mistake. System isn't the best fit for what Drake can do.

I don't how you can drop back and none of these guys are open Diggs - Pop - Henry or Boutte?? I know the D gets' paid to play too but C'mon.

I constantly see him (and have for years) talked about around here as overrated and somewhat of a detriment to the offense..
