SMY is reporting that Marquise Cole has been released.

Wouldn't be surprised if Coles were added if/when Dennard's case gets heard in Neb.

On what basis? He looked steps slow and his trademark explosiveness looked all but sapped. Many people were shocked that he even made the roster initially.

I thought he was just getting warmed up, and I expected the explosiveness to return during the regular season. He had his best punt return yet last game, 43 yards. I felt like this was just the beginning for him on this team.

I've been waiting and waiting to see Vereen back there but for whatever reason BB refuses to have him return kicks. Boyce I haven't seen or heard his return history but knowing his attributes sounds good to me. Anything but risking DMC or another starter at a thin position.

I didn't particularly like Cole's play, but, the 4th preseason game he a good game.

I wish that the Pats had Leon when he was younger...he was awesome!

Boyce had the highest KR average of any of the Patriots returners in the preseason. That should count for something, and, he's also probably the fastest player on the team in terms of straight line speed (Slater would have something to say to that).

I would like to see them use Josh Boyce, he is a special kind of fast, I saw that one play that actually got waived off last week (because of the Dobson P/I) but Boyce caught the football and just exploded, I saw that and instantly thought this kid could be special.

He also had a fumble too, which at the time I thought was the final nail in the coffin for his roster chances. Without the ability of foresight, I was shocked he even made the team.

His time with the Patriots was marred with inconsistencies and he didn't look like he was going to improve once the real games started.

I would think that Edelman, Vereen, and Boyce would all be candidates.

It's a shame that our 2 biggest vet acquisitions in A.Wilson and L.Washington didn't work out--but hopefully Tommy Kelly offsets those 2 losses a bit with his play.

Not worried about the KR as long as it's not McCourty, as you said. Just not worth the obvious risk.

Not that he is my ideal kick returner either, but Devin McCourty was not that bad last season, he averaged 24.2 yards per return and ran 1 kick back for a touchdown, Washington who is highly regarded as a top kick returner has a career average of 25.9 yards per return. If you factor in that it was McCourty’s first season returning kicks for us finishing 14th in the league is not a horrific showing.

I called this long ago. Just saying not because I dislike the guy but cos a lot of people think he was a lock. Even though BB wants great special teams play, looking at it from a value perspective, kick return is one of the lowest just cos kickers are more likely to kick it for a touchback now. The punt returner is where the value should be placed.

Let's compare apples with apples. McCourty averaged 24.2 yards per return last year and ranked 38th; Washington averaged 29 and ranked 12th. Among qualified returners, the highest average was 30.7. Not to stomp on the guy, but McCourty is no Washington.

Edelman scares the crap outta me when he is back there returning punts/kicks.....alot of bobbling...and pretty occas fumbling! Dont like him nearly as much or confidently as Washington.....but obviously BB does.....

Maybe he was just Edelman insurance all along.
